I recently visited The Rutherford House, and while I acknowledge the organization's commendable work, I feel compelled to share a concerning experience I had during my visit. Upon politely asking the receptionist for restroom access, I was initially granted permission, with the caveat that it would be the last time. However, my encounter took a distressing turn when a staff member, the Director of Business Affairs, Bruce Dickson, aggressively confronted me upon him exiting the restroom, insisting I “get out!” and use the Burger King restroom instead. Despite calmly explaining that I had received permission from the receptionist, he continued to yell and display inappropriate behavior towards both me and a guest in the lobby. I understand that everyone has their bad days, and I empathize with the challenges people face in our changing world. Nevertheless, it's essential for staff members to uphold a level of respect and courtesy towards visitors, especially when representing The Rutherford House. To improve future interactions, I suggest implementing some measures: * Display a clear sign indicating that restrooms are for employees and staff use only. * Instruct receptionists to politely inform visitors about the restroom policy when they request permission. * Provide training or resources on effective communication and customer service for all staff members. I firmly believe that adopting these changes will positively impact The Rutherford House's guest interactions and ensure that others do not experience a similar unfortunate incident. A great organization that needs more attention for the work they do. When I was young they personally helped me and I am forever in their debt. Please help others know of all of the services they have for the community.
