What Parents Say
Roads to Success receives mixed reviews with significant polarization. Positive reviews praise the program for youth employment opportunities, college access, and providing school supplies and support. Negative reviews cite poor communication, unprofessional staff conduct, lack of leadership, inconsistent policies, and inadequate accommodation for children with special needs.
I am extremely disappointed with the Road to Success after-school program. Communication has been poor, inconsistent, and unprofessional. Important information is either not shared in a timely manner or not shared at all, leaving parents confused and scrambling for answers. Not only has my daughter’s program not have a Director for almost a year and a half, there also appears to be a lack of structure and accountability. Policies are applied inconsistently, and expectations are not clearly communicated. When concerns are raised, they are often dismissed rather than addressed with transparency or meaningful solutions. What is most troubling is how situations involving children — especially those with special needs or disabilities — are handled. Instead of working collaboratively with families to support students, the program feels reactive rather than proactive. There is little effort to accommodate individual needs, which is especially concerning given NYC’s recent initiatives and commitments to inclusive childcare and after-school programs that serve all children, including those with disabilities and special needs. Families deserve programs that prioritize safety, communication, inclusion, professionalism, and compliance with the city’s goals for equitable childcare access. Unfortunately, in my experience, Road to Success has not met those standards. I strongly encourage parents to ask detailed questions about how the program accommodates children with diverse needs, get everything in writing, and closely monitor their child’s experience if considering this program.
A lot of the staff members were genuinely concerned with the children but I had to request for my son to be placed in a different group because one particular staff member was very unprofessional; using obscenities in front of the kids, telling the fifth graders he couldn’t wait for them to leave , got into it with the students and even told a child he didn’t like him to his face. It’s one thing if you do not like children, but you don’t tell it to their faces. Tell it to your homeboys or your peeps you hang out with. Respect is earned!
