I’m very pleased with this location! The staff is consistently friendly and the facility remains impressively clean given the amount of people that access it throughout the day. There’s also a strong sense of community among the members, which makes the environment enjoyable. So, don’t be surprised if someone randomly strikes up a friendly conversation with you. I’ve truly enjoyed utilizing the gym, classes and lap pool.
Had nothing but great things to say about the YMCA when my child was enrolled for preschool, however I recently learned they have been charging me membership fees for the past 18 months without sending me any emails, mail, brochures, phone calls, etc, to give me at least a CLUE that I have been a member. I guess that's the better business strategy- you wouldn't want to take someone's money AND inform them that you're doing it. Best to just quietly charge them once a month and hope they're none the wiser! Brilliant work, YMCA!
Kudos to the geniuses there who decided to pack the cardio & weight room combined so tight giving no adequate space to actually do the workouts. So many movements & exercises have to be limited. Only matter of time someone will get hurt & costing more liabilities🤦🏽
This place is a a joke. I joined in Sept. of 2024, and got laid off not long after. I used the facility two times before losing my job then went on the site to cancel. I thought I did, and never went back. I just found out the membership never cancelled so I reached out to see if I could be refunded. My records show that I'd never used the facility. Not even one time on 15 months as I was under the impression I was no longer a member. I reached out via email to the director Kelly, and never received a response which is rude. Finally I got a call from her subordinate, that all they can do is give me a refund for one month. I asked to speak with Kelly but she wasn't available and I was told she'd call me back which she never did, so I called her directly. Zero empathy, and absolutely no sense at all. I asked why and she basically said that's just how it is. They can't go back that far in the system. So let me get this straight- you can look up my account after it was cancelledto get my address (which she did) but can't see my history? She said we can't give a refund for that much. I'm confused why? You can write me a check for a one month refund. That's a check coming from a bank account that surely has money in it. If you can print a check for one month, surely you can do it for more than one month. It's not a meter of can't it's a matter of won't. She was cold and didn't care. I feel cheated and what's worse is there's no governing body that oversees the branches which is outrageous. Each branch has the final say and nothing can override them. Whocxogtou voice complaints to? How do you escalate a situation? It's like the branch directors can do what they want They don't even send month receipts or reminders of autodrafts. If they did I'd have known after the first month my membership wasn't canceled and I'd have stopped it. I lnow I messed up but things happen. To not work with someone and try to help is a joke. To be totally void of empathy and say you can't help, is not very Christian. It blows my mind that you can't even run it up the chain. She even said it's a branch by branch basis. They all do it differently, which tells me it's just her electing not to give a full refund. Save your time and do not join this branch. Update: This is a response to the Ridley YMCA Owner who responded to my review and said it was not accurately depicting the situation. My bank statements would show that the money was being taken out but I did not see the debit in my bank statements. 1.) I was not looking for anything from Ridley YMCA because I was under the impression I cancelled. 2.) I will admit that I do not regularly check my bank statements, so that's why it's on me. I own that. Lack of use of the facility does not cancel a membership? Who said it does? I know I didn't. What I am saying is that lack of use of the facility for 15 months indicates that I was not trying to pull one over on you. I wasn't using it and demanding a refund, and it should lend credence to my story that I legitimately thought my membership was cancelled. I recall logging in and going through the motions to cancel but obviously didn't complete the process probably on account of getting distracted with something going on my house and I just completely forgot to go back and do it. It happens. It's a mistake. Not checking my statements and forgetting to compete the cancelation were mistakes on my part. But how do you not send receipts? How do you not send a notification? You're the only organization I've ever seen that doesn't do that. What irks me is the lack of empathy- and offering one month of a refund when the amount in question was 15 months. It boggles my mind, that without a clear explanation, that that's all you're able to do. It's very much an issue of won't, not can't. Because if you can write a check from a bank account for one month, you can do it for 5 or 6 or whatever. I don't even want the full 15 months since I am responsible for the mistake. You could've offered a partial. Joke
If you want to join you should know the following that we have experienced since joining earlier this year: 1) Sometimes the classes are so crowded you can't always move well or see the instructor, 2) Sometimes the instructor doesn't show up for class and there is no advance warning and the folks at the desk (who are nice) don't know what happened. We are getting tired of making the time and effort to attend classes only to get nothing. UPDATE: the owner's response about teachers not showing up is complete BS. If the students are not notified, and the people at the desk don't know what's going on, what do you call that? Maybe the owner is out of touch with what actually happens. This also happened to us once at the Springfield location. Also, if classes are too crowded, then maybe you should add an additional class or two. Your response was dismissive of our complaint.
