What Parents Say
Renton Christian Sonshine has experienced a significant decline in quality following recent leadership changes and a merger. While earlier reviews praised caring staff, attentive teachers, and reasonable pricing, recent reviews cite inconsistent care, lack of supervision, poor communication, and unprofessional staff conduct.
Our son has been attending Sonshine Learning Center (Formally Little Peoples Preschool / Ranier Christian) at the Auburn location for the past 4 years. We have LOVED our experience, support and care our littles have received. We now have a 3 and 5 year old. Unfortunately the Auburn location has merged with whomever else and many families have left due to new leadership take over. We understand merges are hard. We don’t understand the lack of care shown in the process. Our son is 5 and has been diagnosed with autism. (Level 1) His prek teacher, the entire staff that has known him since age 1, and an entire board of psychologists / IEP folks said he could move up to kindergarten. Unfortunately - it was a random gal from the Renton location who screened him for kindergarten. No instruction was given. We were told he would be screened by the kindergarten teacher At the Auburn location and even went to get her room, our son met her etc. Instead we arrived to have a random lady who didn’t introduce herself, lead our son back to a room and return him with a simple “Bye. You will hear from us.” It was so strange. Anyway- A week later we were told that lady decided our son was not good to go for kindergarten. We were shocked as so many people said he was, we registered him already etc. She reported he ONLY knew how to count to 1. His teacher who spent the year with him noted he can can’t to 29. She noted he only knew a couple of letters. Of course his preK teacher said he knows almost all. She gave a very poor report of who he actually is and all others knew as well. While we have loved Little Peoples / Ranier Christian- This merge has been hard. I would definitely not recommend whoever that lady was at the Renton location as she doesn’t understand working with kids upon first meeting them. If you decide to register for Redeemer- please ask questions. Please get to know your child’s teacher. Our son is currently repeating preK (which many say isn’t good) and only attending 3 days a week as the people who took over don’t make flexible options for families anymore. Why *wouldn’t a family be able to attend 4 days? There are still some very very good people around… but also some who are changing the foundation and heart of school.
We have two kids enrolled in SLC. Our son is almost 3 and daughter recently turned 5. Our son is very timid and took a while to adjust but now he cannot wait to go to daycare. He’s usually running ahead of us into class. Which shows a lot! My daughter really enjoys her time there as well, seems to have made some great friends and loves her teachers. In our experience, the teachers seem to genuinely love the kiddos and are so attentive. We have been so blessed!
Great for both of my sons. My older son is too old to go there now but 16 month old has fun. The teacher communicates with me through text and even sent me pictures to reassure me that my toddler was settling in and having fun when he first started going there. Teachers snuggle him when he gets upset when I'm leaving but he's much more comfortable now.
So my daughter attended here from November 2022- July 2023. I will say that in the beginning, my daughter had great care (infant room). Then she transitioned to another room (crawlers room) and again had great care. When she got to Waddlers room (not all staff was bad but you could tell who cares and who doesn’t care) the care when down hill. I would pick her up dirty! Her face and clothes dirty. Pamper was always full. I mean, I told them about the face wipes. I even demonstrated how to wipe a face. I always had extra clean clothes in her bag. I just didn’t get it. I was also not allowed to have glass dishes but hey, I don’t like to heat up plastic for health reasons. My preference is glass. I even brought an extra bowl for them to dump food in as requested. Overall, I had to leave this place. Places like this is good for things like consistent care (no last minute sick days and having to find someone to watch your kid) or vacation holding spots (basically if you are are teacher and want to keep your kid over the summer, you pay 600 for 8 weeks and they will hold your child’s spot). Also, so many kids in a room!
Every time I walked into my child's classroom, teachers were on phone. They will not shy away to keep being busy on the phone while you are present in the class. My son didn't learn a word after paying hefty fees. They let them be in the toy section in class to play and fight. So if you have someone to look after your child at home and are able to teach nothing to your child, it's the same thing if you are sending the child to this preschool. Don't waste money here unless you have no choice because of work or other commitments. You are just paying for your child to play with no supervision. My son has come home with bruises and scratches. My child's progress in all those months had been zero.
