It is a place where God led us as a family. I have a personal relationship with Christ. The fellowship with the church family at Porter, strengthens this relationship. The Lord is using the pastors here to build His eternal kingdom. I am immensely blessed by the word of God and fellowship with others on Sundays and Wednesdays. The worship draws you closer to the Lord. The Sunday service, life groups, 2x2 groups and Wednesday Bible study are my personal blessings. There are many other fellowship gatherings which I can't attend because of my time. I recommend it to families and friends who want to grow in a relationship with Christ.
I gave this church a few chances. I just felt it wasn’t for me personally. The members here are very kind and personable. But I also felt like I was inside a business a lot of the days. It’s almost a little to programmed for me. The choir is beautiful. The sermons are good. But there is something inside that doesn’t align with my spirit. I also feel there is a lot of money going into this church and it seems almost like a business. The way they don’t really talk about donating until after you are a member is strange. You get a letter in the mail with your contribution number once you become a member. The giving boxes are not hiding but they don’t really talk about it unless it’s the beginning of the sermon and they talk about the next step card then they mention to place it in the donation box or give to a pastor. In a way I think it’s their way pointing out the donation box without asking for donations. I kept wanting to give but kept hearing the Lord tell me no. Even both services have the same message but also the same exact jokes from the pastor. And it just takes out the authenticity and feels too programmed. I think this church has so many programs and things to keep up with if they didn’t receive half of what they are given it would fall apart. And maybe the center of this church shouldn’t be so much money. Should be Christ centered. It’s not a poor persons church. Forgot to mention the entrance you will see a playground for younger kids. They don’t say the kids must go in there but the pastor makes comments such as oh I wasn’t sure if you were aware of our kid area.. I get the whole reason behind it but also find it very unwelcoming and almost like “kids are too loud for my program to look good on the internet.” And some people get distracted with small children I’m sure it’s a blessing to most but again this is my personal opinion. Instead of saying I’m not sure if you are aware of the kid area maybe just start off with we as a church prefer to have small children in this area due to XYZ. Instead of trying to hide the truth. And no one is missing the play area trust when it’s the first thing you walk and see entering.
I'm definitely biased, because I go here, but I love this church. Everyone is welcoming and kind, there are programs for all ages, and we love Pastor Nick's preaching. There are great services every Sunday at 8:30 and 11, and Life Groups at 9:45. We also make coffee for everyone (I help out) and I've just loved seeing this church grow. I was here before renovations and the way the renovations have changed the appearance and makes it look so much more modern and welcoming. I will always love this church and this community!
