What Parents Say
Play Yard LP receives mixed reviews. Positive reviews praise the staff, director Dede, personalized care, reasonable pricing, and welcoming environment. Negative reviews cite enrollment discrimination concerns, unprofessional management responses, safety concerns with bus driver conduct, and reluctance to accept children with learning disabilities.
I called to inquire about aftercare as my child gets out of TAE 3 at 11:00am I was told they don’t accept students from TAE, which was very confusing since our neighbors have kids that go to TAE and then to the Play Yard after. After telling my wife, she subsequently called and was told the same thing, even after offering to pay the full time rate for part time care. We were both told, (on two separate occasions), that The Play Yard does not accept TAE students, and no waitlist was offered. After the topic became public and reading all the hateful comments, one that made me think was that TAE 3 is only offered to underprivileged, ESL, and children with learning disabilities insinuating that we are poor and/ or our child is developmentally challenged, (the not so commonly known exception, is children of veterans with a disability rating), so as clear as I can be that this is just my own speculation, (barring the disabled vet exception), seems like the only logical reasons we were told they weren’t accepting kids from TAE, nor offered a wait list, is that TAE 3 has the stigma of poor and/ or challenged kids. Again, let me be 100% clear this is my own speculation and my brain trying to make it make sense after a post which simply asked what parents were doing for aftercare since The Play Yard doesn’t accept kids from TAE, then subsequently the owner reversed course and publicly accused us both of lying. That conduct is unacceptable and extremely unprofessional. This is not a comment on teachers or curriculum, but on operations and management. Given this public unprofessionalism, I shudder to think how parental feedback is handled for children who are enrolled there.
My son has been at TPY for a year now and I have to say the staff, and the director are truly amazing! Have we had hiccups and adjustments? YES! However Dede truly knows what she is doing and always does what is in the best interest of the child! It hard sending a 1 year old off and trusting someone with your whole world. Dede and the rest of the staff always ensure that my boy is welcome and well taken care of. I couldnt ask for a better second home or group of people to help raise my boy! Thank you TPY!
I do not have a child in this daycare. My experience is with their bus driver. I-35 is dangerous enough without people being on their cell phones. I recently came into contact with this daycare's bus on the highway. *There were no children in the van.* The driver had her cell phone resting on the steering wheel and was scrolling. She was doing below the speed limit and impeding traffic. When I called the daycare, i was basically dismissed because there were no children on the bus. I asked the young lady on the phone several times for her name and she flat out refused. I'm just trying to get home safe as our other people. And this business doesn't care. Unless there's kids on their bus!
The Play Yard has amazing staff that truly get to know and love your child(ren). They are one of the very few places that accomodates part-time child care and their prices are very-well considered, especially for the care and environment they provide. As a working mom, its reassuring to leave our daughter in such good hands. Thank you Dede, Christina, Leslie, Brandy and Bridgette for making our child's experiances, educational and beautiful!
Refused to even meet our child based on one of their friends from kids zone in Georgetown saying our son was a nightmare. They told us they no longer had a spot available. My son has learning disabilities and I guess it was just too much for them to handle.
