What Parents Say
The Pittsburg Family YMCA Day Care Center receives mixed reviews. Parents praise its cleanliness, diverse activity offerings (gymnastics, ballet, swimming, racquetball), women-only gym facilities, reasonable pricing, and financial assistance programs. However, concerns include inconsistent pool hours and closures, poor maintenance, cold pool temperature, limited shower facilities, and scheduling conflicts with college calendars.
The pool is always colder than other YMCA's I've been in. The showers or not that clean and there is only 2 shower heads left in the men's shower plus there'sno private showers. The maintenance of this place is poor. For what you pay a month X's how many people that pays they could fix things better
Nice place it’s fun to workout here and I love how clean this place is ! I met this cute guy Connor in the men’s locker room as I was getting changed and he hit on me and we swam shirtless together and lifted weights together it was so hot. The pool was really nice and warm. There was one issue. Big spider in a web outside the main entrance almost walked right into it. Connor got scared and we both cuddled until we found a way to knock it down. The web was back by time we got in the car . Please eradicate this spider and its big ass web !!
The Pittsburg YMCA is, without exaggeration, the most disorganized and mismanaged establishment I’ve had the misfortune of dealing with in this town. We joined last week and regretted it almost immediately. From the start, our membership has been a complete mess — our account doesn’t register properly, it pulls up completely different names, and we have zero access to other Y locations. It’s as if we don’t actually exist in the system, which raises serious questions about how memberships are being handled here. When I asked about the state of the facility — namely the broken sauna and whether any updates were planned — I was given a bizarre answer about the Neosho location’s manager supposedly helping Pittsburg. I’m sorry, but why does a gym in another city need to swoop in to manage this location? Should I be calling them for support instead? In fact I think I will! The staff, while polite enough, never have the faintest idea what’s going on. Basic questions are met with shoulder shrugs, blank stares, or vague “I’m not sure” responses. There’s no information, no accountability, and definitely no urgency. As for the manager? Perpetually unavailable and never returns calls — assuming they exist at all. This place is one bad day away- if not there already- to being fraudulent. We’ll be canceling in person once we’re back in town, and hopefully we’ll get to see this elusive manager in real life. Rest assured, we’ll also be reporting this location to YMCA corporate. Whatever this place is, it certainly isn’t operating to YMCA standards.
I cannot stress my dissatisfaction with this YMCA. To start, the facility is absolutely disgusting. There’s a noticeable bug problem—I’ve personally seen roaches and crickets. The lack of attention to cleanliness is appalling, especially for a facility that’s supposed to promote health and wellness. It’s clear that cleanliness is not a priority here, and it’s honestly a health hazard. The staff is no better. Most employees are unhelpful, unprofessional, and always glued to their phones instead of assisting members. The front desk staff is particularly clueless and has no idea what’s going on, especially when it comes to gymnastics or other classes. Whether it’s enrolling, unenrolling, handling payments, or simply answering questions, they’re completely unreliable. Don’t even bother calling because you’ll just waste your time getting vague or contradictory answers. The air conditioning is another major issue—it always seems to be broken, no matter the time of year. The building is either uncomfortably hot and stuffy or freezing cold, making it impossible to exercise comfortably. There’s clearly no effort being put into fixing these ongoing problems. The accommodations are severely limited, the equipment is outdated and insufficient, and the hours—especially on weekends—are ridiculously inconvenient. This place does not cater to the needs of its members at all. On top of all this, the payment system is a total mess. I’ve experienced issues with balances, unexplained charges, and errors when trying to enroll or unenroll from classes. It’s almost as if they’re more interested in taking your money than providing a decent experience. And good luck trying to resolve any of these issues—the staff and management are so disorganized, you’ll never get a straight answer. The lack of communication, combined with the dirty facility, unhelpful staff, dysfunctional air conditioning, and lackluster amenities, makes this place an absolute joke. If you’re considering joining, save yourself the frustration and look elsewhere.
I'm a bit pissed at the Pittsburg KS YMCA... I was told to cancel my membership by the 6th to avoid being charged for June, I was still charged on the 10th. After calling them several different days, with promise of somebody getting back with me.... I was told today, June 26th that I wouldn't receive a refund. She said I should have canceled before the 1st. Even tho one of their employees told me wrong. 🤬
