This is not a daycare center but rather a historical museum and cultural site on Saint Helena Island dedicated to African American history and the Freedom movement. Visitors praise it as an educational destination with knowledgeable staff, beautiful grounds, and significant historical importance.
Honestly a must-visit for anyone interested in African American movement lineage and Southern Freedom movements. The grounds are gorgeous and the staff are so knowledgeable, wise and welcoming. The museum and presenter are fantastic.
Truly a life changing experience. Truly sacred grounds. Dr Gibbs was very engaging and inspiring. The campus is stunning.
We had our Pop- Up Mende Film Festival with a Sy Murray My Godfather and his Family And we had a Blast !! July 21? 2024 dont quote the date but we loved it had great learning overal overwhelming history of the school it's facility and the revolt that took place on the ground back in the 1800s is very interesting! Film narrative was redundant to esteemed speaker at museum, no pictures allowed. Chairs were somewhat uncomfortable. Visitor center was not open. Grounds were interesting and well maintained.
To be clear, this review is based on the experience from our visit. The center itself, its history, purpose, and story are inspiring. We bought tickets for the guided tour, but it wasn’t a tour at all. We heard the guide speak about place for about 10-15 min then watched a 30-40 min documentary. I was expecting and hoping for a walking tour around the property! Save your money and just do the self-guided tour. After sitting so long with our ADHD son, we had to leave as he was done.
