What Parents Say
Overtown Youth Center receives mixed reviews. Positive feedback highlights strong summer and after-school programs with diverse activities, field trips, and family support services. However, parents report concerns about administrative issues, enrollment delays, facility maintenance, content appropriateness, and community representation.
I had my 9 year old grandson in the OYC for the summer program. It was an amazing experience for him and he really loved it. Daily activities, field trips and so much more. The kids were the #1 priority and the staff was very nice. He will definitely be going for summer of 26'.
As a black man I am concern about the mural on the building that excludes black boys! Black boys have the worst health and social outcomes. How does it make them feel to walk pass a new building in their community that is suppose help them but only girls are good enough to be reflected on it? The message is clear, black girls are more important than them. OYC has to do better. The fact no one thought about black boys speaks volumes. Especially people who say the have their best interest at heart. This oversight needs to be corrected immediately!!
I'm very happy to learn about this program for are black kids. We also need this in Liberty City and Miami Gardens. In Broward there are 2 boy's and girls clubs that I know about because 3 for my grandkids go there. Very affordable. We need are very successful companies to give back. Are black kids need are help desperately. They have nothing to do but get trouble by committing crimes. Let's teach them something new something different something positive that will affect their lives in a positive way. I pray for this in Jesus name. Thank you
Horrible experience with the Family Services Department! Very rude & they seem to pick and choose who they can help with rent assistance. Leadership needs adjustment!
I am happy to have to opportunity to have my children attend OYC. I love the village and patience created for our children . These’s lots of things offered at OYC for our children such as transportation, homework assistance, STEM activities, indoor and outdoor play, field trips , sporting and community events etc…. They even offer family nights , zoom meetings to help parents get back on track with finances, credit repair , home buying, jobs and job training . I’m glad my family and I are apart of this village . Kept up the great work
