What Parents Say
Capstone Academy receives overwhelmingly positive feedback, particularly for its special needs services, caring staff, and therapeutic programs. Parents praise the principal, teachers, and support staff for their dedication and personalized attention. Two negative reviews cite poor communication during scheduling and concerns about emergency response procedures from several years ago.
This is the best schools in Pensacola . The staff is wonderful. The principal is so down to earth and understanding and in touch with each of her students and staff . My son had Mrs Ann and when I say this woman is the best and a veteran I’m so blessed to have had her in my son’s life . The teachers assistants treat your babies with so much patience and kindness that I have seen with not just my son but every student the secretary always meets you at the front with a smile she knows every student she has sung with my son on his way to class she has skipped with my son and pulled out bubbles to help lead my son to class . They have wagons to help bring students back and forth . I have seen staff help mothers to their car who have multiple small kiddos. I have seen them put together events for the kids that they can enjoy at their level . My son had Mrs alley for occupational therapy in class and outpatient and she had a new activity for my son each session she gently pushed and encouraged him through each activity . Also Mrs alley always has suggestions of tools to help or activities we can try at home. We had Mrs Debbie for speech and she was so helpful and we have seen so much growth in our son . These people care about your child and they do not give up on them. My son is autistic and he had attended a public school the first half of the year that was not as kind . I do not take capstone for granted at all these individuals are angels in human form . Everyday at dismissal they have a treat for your kiddo . I mean as parents we are spoiled at capstone and our kids as well . I have nothing but good things to say about capstone my only criticism is I wish they had more grade levels lol but they set your kids up for success . I just want to say thank you all for a great year :) oh and they have a app where you can see pictures of your child and communicate with teachers and staff just another thing that makes this place special .. I can honestly go on and on and I’m probably missing so much details because they do so much behind the scenes but we are just so grateful this is coming from a helicopter mom you can trust them and that means a lot coming from me because I’m very picky they superseded my expectations
Highly recommend Capstone Academy for special needs kids! These Teachers and staff are the real deal, they are so patient and loving with my autistic son ! especially Ms. Ann and Ms. Laine. My son has thrived thanks to the wonderful environment at Capstone!
My son went here for 3 years and he got his therapies which all them were so caring and sweet there as well. He has exelled so much here and was always happy going there every morning and happy coming home. He really enjoyed it so much. Leo has progressed from not talking to talking very well once graduating. I was really happy with every teacher that he was assigned to and the staff and office lady are incredibly welcoming and nice! The principal really cares about all of her kids that go there and you can tell how hard she has worked to create a humble and great academic place for children to learn and thrive! I really miss this place and wish they had a k through 12th for kids with disabilities!
My son needs speech therapy, and is rather delayed. I called at about 10:30am to schedule his first appointment with them. I was put on hold for about 3 minutes then told that she'd give my information to the speech therapist (Maya I believe) and she would call me because she was "too busy" to schedule the appointment at the time. I called back about 2:00pm since I had not received a phone call and was told she was in a session and would call me. When I pointed out I was told that three hours earlier, I got a laundry list of excuses why they were so busy including the secretary wasn't there. I called back at about 5:30 one last time. I was told that everyone for speech therapy had gone home and there was no way to schedule the appointment. This is unacceptable. I am calling my health insurance in the morning & taking my son somewhere where they care enough about their patients to return a phone call in a timely manner. UPDATE: They finally returned my call a week later. By then I had switched the referral and had an appointment scheduled for the next day with another company.
My son had an allegic reaction to peanuts after being given a snack by a member of the staff ( he had no known peanut allergy at the time, but was a severe asthmatic and had an epipen up there just in case). They called me and told me he had the reaction and asked me what to do. I asked them if his airway was at all obstructed or if he was having trouble breathing? They said yes, and i told them to give his first epipen and if the ablulance didnt arrive in 15 mins then to give him the second epipen. The epipen failed when they gave it to him and the ambulance gave him the second when they arrived. I beleive they should have called the ambulance either first or while calling me to ask me what to do, any nurse should know that if i childs airway is not clear from an allergic reaction, then it should be considered a medical emergency. P.S. this happened 5-6 years ago so not sure if the same people are there but if they are then i would highly recommend not to bring your child there if he/she has a larger than normal possibility of having a medical emergency.
