What Parents Say
Orchard View Early Elementary receives mixed reviews. Two parents praised the staff's hospitality and commitment to education, while three parents raised serious concerns about parental involvement in decisions, outdoor recess in dangerous cold temperatures, inadequate special education services, and poor staff communication and demeanor.
When did it become ok for our public schools to determine what is in the best intrest of our children without first including the parents in that discussion? Or worsely gravely going against what a parent has clearly expressed they feel is in the best interest of there child at this present time! This has been done without knowing this childs or familys current situation whatsoever and not caring to ask before making these said decisions on whats in best interst and with no facts to support this recomendation other then the opinion of staff? When in the mean time hindering the continuation of education. When did parents stop being more then welcome to be involved with there childrens schooling? Im shocked in this moment and feel as a parent i have no say so and thats concerning.
I am leaving this review as a form of documentation as I hope other parents will join in this effort to stop this administration from allowing our children to be sent out in sub 0 temperatures, exposing them to health risks and other adverse health effects!!!!!! today, January 29, 2026 our children were sent out for recess not once but twice the current temperature at that time was 15°F not including the windchill. My child is currently complaining of frostbite like symptoms as I imagine other children are doing same. This is completely unacceptable and I will be doing everything I can moving forward to protect my child and everyone else’s. Completely Unacceptable behavior especially when you’re in the care of small children ranging from the ages of five and above you’ll be hearing from me Skylar Ryan Simpkins
This is probably the worst school in the area. The only people who like the school are the ones whose children are performing well in the school. If my kid was performing well im sure I would get better communication from his teacher, and maybe I would be treated differently. My child is performing absolutely horrible. Let me just preface this review right now. There are no avenues for a child on the "spectrum" to do well. He is having an insanely hard time with speech, and reading. Yet there are no teachers at the school, and no classes available for speech. I went to Ross Park elementary, and was put in a special class for speech. I remember the school even had an after hours daycare where they provided snacks, and further learning opportunitys. Everytime I go in here everyone looks depressed. Everyone looks overworked, and the office admins look at me like I am a criminal. My girlfriends kids go to Grand Haven, and there is a dramatic difference in the "aura" of the school. Everyone looks happy. Everyone looks like they care. My girlfriends kid is on the spectrum EXACTLY like my son is; yet he receives all of this extra help. He even has an IEP with him at all times. He gets help reading, and he gets help with speech. I went to his conference, and his teacher was discombulated. His teacher seemed confused. He looked at me funny. It seemed as though he was taken by surprise? His teacher did do a good job at communicating how badly my kid is performing; BUT his teacher had no idea how to proceed to get my son up to par. It seemed as though his teacher has zero education even though im told that this is a FANTASTIC teacher. He had no idea where I could bring him for tutoring. He had no idea how I could help him read or help him with his speech. He took my information down regarding IV Rehab yet I have heard absolutely nothing for an entire week. I had to do my own research and sadly there is absolutely nothing available for speech, and reading at all in muskegon or any area down south. My son's mother is in section 9 housing or whatever it's called, and since the laws of "parenting time" are heavily favored towards mother's sometimes its hard to even get my kid to be able to properly teach him how to read or how to talk properly. Everytime im denied parenting time, and try to tell someone here they don't care! No matter how many times I tell teachers or office admins about education neglect at home they look at me like im psychotic. Nobody is taking my side here. As I said before I feel extremely uncomfortable going inside this school. The way they look at me. The way they treat me. Its literally impossible to gain any sort of control here. Everything seems gear'd towards the mom. I use Class Dojo. I am professional. I am educated. I do not put anybody down. I am highly liked at work, and many say im "successful" yet the energy I put out towards staff here goes unnoticed. Even though I am ALWAYS kind and courteous. I messaged the teacher, and received no response. I even went to the Halloween parade with hopes of talking to the teacher more, but his teacher was so busy with his OWN EGO and that he didn't even say ONE WORD to me. I am EXTREMLY upset that you can not even go to a schooling event with hopes of talking to teachers. When my girlfriend and I go to Grand Haven during events they are always open for conversation. The difference between a Muskegon school, and Grand Haven is absolutely massive. The school inside looks brand new. Yet its not reflecting on the way teachers present themselves or how they talk to me. I feel like an absolute alien here. I even took off my hat with hopes that I wouldn't be treated like a criminal, and to my dismay it didn't even work. I received the same responses. I even dressed properly, and wore a very nice jacket. There's just no excuse. I care so much about my son, and I want him to perform well. I want him to be successful. I want him to be able to read, and to talk properly. Nobody here treats father's with respect.
