I tried to stop by to see if someone could help me answer a simple question and was turned away at the door by an unfriendly man who seemed to act like a bouncer. There didn’t seem to be anything going on inside that would have explained why I was told I could not enter and he offered no explanation, he just hurriedly tried to get me to leave. To his credit he did say I could call to make an appointment but the entire interaction was very cold and I’m skeptical that was even a genuine offer. Then he followed me outside, stood and watched as I walked back to my car and drove off. I attended a friend’s bar mitzvah here and I grew up around the corner so I thought it’d be a friendly place but they’re definitely no Chabadniks. Even though it was further away I was able to stop at a Chabad house and get my question answered. Rabbi Hillel was very generous and offered to help me even while Hebrew school was beginning and all the children were arriving. I would have understood if he asked me to come back. Thanks Rabbi Hillel for confirming the engraver’s error in my grandfather’s headstone, now I can correct it! To Ohev: I’d recommend taking down the rest of the dilapidated “welcome” sign out front if it’s just for show and you’d rather not be bothered by non-members. I understand it’s not an open house 24/7 but the impression I was given was that it was a mistake to even stop by and ask. Also, if you’re that concerned about a Jew asking about a Hebrew typo I don’t understand why you’d share your space with a public veterinarian office.
My name is Allison. My wonderful son, Zachary Zimri, and I have been attending Celebrations here for several years now. Everyone has been so warm, kind, and friendly here. Suzanne, Trudy , all of the other wonderful volunteers, and the clergy always go above and beyond. We are very thankful for this amazing program.
