What Parents Say
Northside Center for Children Development ASP receives mixed reviews. Positive reviews highlight exceptional staff members, particularly Mr. Joseph Ellis, and praise supportive programs for families with diverse needs including domestic violence situations and special education. However, negative reviews report serious concerns about classroom management, staff conduct, health/hygiene issues, and one psychiatrist's unprofessional behavior.
My daughter recently started Pre-K & as nervous & scared as I was, she did just fine! Teachers and staff have been a godsend and an overall positive experience. My daughter goes with NO ONE, & we're on week 3 & she loves school & her teacher! I get communication via email or paper in her bookbag, I recommend if you're looking for preschool for 3 or 4 years old with an IEP.
I called this hospital to get help with my son 14 years old. They were not able to get him help he needed but they helped me get one by calling hospitals and recommending them to take my son. The supervisor stayed in touch with me throughout the process and made sure that he is admitted where he needs to be which was something I tried in the past but couldn’t accomplish on my own without their recommendation. They were truly amazing in their care, went above and beyond their responsibilities to help my son who was in dire need for help. I would recommend this hospital for anyone struggling with their child/children in getting any help.
I took my kid here for services after seeing that they need help and I was able to get in touch with a therapist there in his school. At a certain point, my kid came home upset about a topic I talked to his therapist about and she told him about it when I told her not to until I was ready. They have this energy that they know better than the parent. If you want mental health services, I don’t recommend you bring your child here. Take them somewhere else!!!
Dr. Crespo is among the worst doctors here, made me uncomfortable to the point of depression and she will gaslight you into listening to her with her nasty, unprofessional, and mean attitude. Avoid at all costs. She needs her license taken away. I will say I have been on Geodon since early 2022, and switched to Crespo around November 2022. I gained about 60 lbs within a few months, between Spring and before fall 2022, and my monthly suddenly disappeared so now I take birth control to regulate it (or else i’m at risk for cancer), i was diagnosed with PCOS in late 2022, and i believe my blood sugar and cholesterol increased easily because of the antipsychotic too. Every time i spoke to a trusted someone about Crespo they agree with her in a way somehow, especially about food causing my weight gain, “eating better” and exercising, without realizing that her medical advice is incredibly misinformed or she doesn’t have a place to say most things. When I told her that I had an extremely hard time sleeping right and randomly wakes up early in the morning and can’t go back to sleep on a higher dose of Geodon, she looked at me and said “What?” looking confused like the surprised Pikachu meme. She told me i’m not expected to lose weight easier after I get off the antipsychotic because of my “metabolism”— which she doesn’t know anything about and that’s not her place as a psychiatrist. It’s also not her place or business as a psychiatrist to keep bugging me about my weight and bloodwork each time over everything else in our sessions (some sessions were mostly on about her giving lectures on how exercising is important and how it will make everything “better” and not listening to my other main health concerns with the side effects) and she even scolded and yelled at me before for not exercising and saying that “no pill will help you” which is misinformation if you do a simple Google search or article research. Psychiatrists and doctors in general tend to be very lacking about the place genetics has in medicine and its side effects. She always brought up me exercising and kept pushing me to exercise like i’m her child and recommended that I do an hour treadmill 4-5 days a week and got an attitude if I didn’t exercise. One of her worst offenses was telling me straight to my face that Geodon and antipsychotics in general were “the right treatment for me” after she spoke to Dr Hoyle who also was mean to me. She’s medically invasive and does not care about autonomy, and at one point my therapist supported her actions until I left them a very long rant through text message and switched psychiatrists. I also need to mention Crespo told me to ask my PCP doctor to put me on weight-loss drugs like Ozempic despite the heavy side effects and disagreements it has from research and other doctors (and i’m not diabetic)? Despite the fact that it’s not her role to be doing that. She tried to blame my eating habits for my weight gain but she once again lied and doesn’t know my genetics—eating a lot due to medicine does NOT lead to such rapid weight gain i’ve experienced. A lot of people would call this “fatphobia” or weight discrimination in a way. I have a recording of her talking about how her black husband is always eating fried chicken and that eating those can cause high blood pressure and heart attacks. Crespo’s into the racist myth that the African American diet is to blame for our deaths or “unhealthy lifestyle”. Terrible thing to mention to your patient. Too much cookie cutter advice. She acted like exercise and eating better is the answer to all my health problems that was likely caused by the pill itself, and LIED and gaslit me that I was the one who brought up the weight stuff even though it was her every single session. Crespo had triggered my anxiety and PTSD, so she really needs to go and I hope Northside listens to me that she was unbearable. No patient should have to go through that, if this was a PCP then I bet things may have gotten worse for me. She’s a terrible doctor. Go to Dr Onua instead.
I been client with North Side Center for almost a year now. This program has changed my mindset to what real help looks like. This program may not know it, but it's driven employees is what makes the difference to rhis programs mission and statement. One employee in particular named Mr. Joseph Ellis came into me and my sons life to not only help me meey my goals, but he put his soul and heart into his work for me and my son Zachary. Not too many employees really listen and take the proper time to really help their clients and that is what Mr. Ellis did for me and my son. He gave me hope to trust in him and in his work beyond North side and today I am on my way to being the best Mother I was set out to be for my son thanks to Mr. Joseph Ellis drive to not only help but to really help you succeed.
