I've had kids at 3 different schools in New Kent County (NKES, GWES, NKMS) and we've had a great experience at every school. We've had fantastic teachers and wonderful admin!
Although they have a handbook, it is not followed nor enforced. School admin (Montecalvo), middle school principal (Wheeler), deputy superintendent (Hochman) and superintendent (Nichols) don’t follow their own rules when it comes to removal of students from the classroom. The superintendent even said it is worse at the high school. All four individuals failed to answer why removal from classroom protocol was not followed although it says that students can’t be removed unless certain steps are taken. I even received a letter addressed to the wrong person stating that my child was placed placed in in school suspension for inappropriate language. The letter never talked about what happened although the handbook states that a letter would be mailed stating what happened. It took more than a month for the superintendent, Brian Nichols, to respond after I kept asking. He wanted to do a phone call but I asked for an email response so there’s no hearsay. This is a non-learning institution where those mentioned above don’t follow their own protocols but expect everyone else to do so. Poor leadership from the top and unprofessional when it comes to following and executing protocol, timely responses, and proper notification to parents.
Very responsive and genuinely care about education.
My friend might be going here and I want her to stay
