What Parents Say
New Hope Child Development Center receives overwhelmingly positive feedback from parents, with most praising the caring staff, excellent communication, and children's enthusiasm for attending. However, one parent reported a serious incident involving inappropriate restraint of their 4-year-old child by the director, which violated South Carolina childcare regulations.
My son has been attending New Hope for about a year and a half, and he absolutely LOVES “school”! His teachers have done an amazing job caring for and teaching him. Even on days when my son may give his teachers or classmates a hard time, they consistently guide him with patience and teach him the lessons he needs to be prepared for big school. Communication has always been excellent, and I truly appreciate everything they have done for our family. Daycare teachers don’t get nearly enough credit for the important work they do, and they certainly aren’t paid enough to keep our children safe, supported, and learning every day. I have full trust in every single teacher at New Hope and will continue to support them—they have done an incredible job with my son. I also want to add that I’m not sure where the previous negative review came from, because I have never seen or heard of any teacher mistreating a child. This daycare is very transparent and always keeps parents informed about what’s happening and how their children are doing. Thank you, New Hope teachers, for everything you do!
I’ve gone back and forth about posting something, but our family recently had an experience with New Hope CDC that I feel local parents deserve to hear. Both of our kids have attended there for over two years, whether it was after school, summer camp, and full-time care. We’ve handled the normal toddler behaviors with our son (hitting/biting, tantrums like most toddlers), always took feedback seriously, and even put him in speech therapy to support communication. This past year he has made huge progress. Last Monday at pickup (not during the day, not with a phone call)… the director told my husband that our son had a bad day. She said she tried time-out, and he wouldn’t stay still and he broke her necklace, so she restrained him in a high chair to “keep him safe.” He is four years old. He hasn’t been in a high chair since before he turned two. And no matter what behavior he was exhibiting, restraining a child like that is not appropriate. In fact, SC childcare regulations prohibit restraining children with mechanical means. The casual way it was mentioned to us, by the director, with no phone call, no concern, was enough to tell us he would not be returning. The following night, we laid in bed with him while he sobbed, asking why he can’t go to school anymore. We kept telling him it wasn’t his fault, but he kept saying he was “a bad boy” and asking what he did wrong. It was gut wrenching, and no child should feel like that. We trusted New Hope CDC with our children. If this is how they handle discipline with a child who can express himself, what happens with the little ones who can’t even talk yet? We just hope sharing our experience helps even one family make an informed decision. Kids deserve patience, communication, and respect, especially from those entrusted with their care.
We have trusted New Hope with the care of our grand daughter. Even though it has only been 1 month, each morning she is excited to go to “school” and see her friends. She comes home in a good mood each day. This says a lot! Thank you New Hope Workers!
My three year old child attends at New Hope CDC and we love it!!! She has learned so much. As a mother it feels good to drop my child off in a class room where I know that she is love and well taken care of. I know that she is learning so much and has lots of friends. I could not be happier with any where else.
My daughter has went here since she was 2, she is now 10. I highly recommend this daycare for many reasons. The support I have gotten from the staff over the past years has been nothing short of incredible. I am so thankful to have found this place when I did.
