Named after the patron saint of Czechoslovakia, this church was dedicated in 1938 after being entirely built by the local Czechoslovakian immigrant inhabitants. We went on the annual Ennis Polka festival weekend held every Memorial Day then went to the 'Polka Mass' on Sunday morning. The Polka Mass was very well attended. Highly recommended. The pastor showed a video of the church being built. It was astonishing. Lowering buckets and men on ropes down into holes to build the footings. The masons building the exterior walls. What they sacrificed to build the church and the quality of the craftsmanship. The interior and exterior is beautiful and inspiring. At one time the campus housed a High School and a Convent. The school buildings are empty. The convent was demolished. If there is a fellowship hall I was unaware of it and the bulletin did not mention it. There did not seem to be much adult formation available. I hope and pray that one day the school can be revived and return so that the deep faith and hope of the ancestors of the people of Ennis can be renewed with future generations.
Had a lovely afternoon with my family and a walk around St. John’s Nepomucene, what wonderful Tartarian architecture! I absolutely adore the copper additions in the planters out front! However my family and I were disappointed to see them with nothing but dirt!
Beautiful church and friendly welcoming people here.
This Catholic Church, and the 4 pm Mass on Sunday with Father John & the soft rock Band, I have found what I have been seeking for my heart, mind, body and My Soul!!!❤️🔥🙏❤️🔥
