I adore that our church embraces every race, and with a legacy that spans 139 years, it exudes a rich history you can truly feel. The sense of family here is remarkable; we welcome all generations. Even amidst our transition, we’re united in our mission to support individuals while serving God. This church embodies the essence of the divine nine fraternities and sororities, offering more than just prayers; they provide tangible solutions and opportunities for discipleship. I’m excited about our journey together and the growth that lies ahead. It’s been a joy to be part of this community for nearly a year now. I joined in the wee hours last year, and they went out of their way to meet with me at 12:30 AM just to ensure I felt right at home. I love my Pastor T.G. Wilkins and his lovely Wife Lady Paris A mother passed away recently, and we were given just three days' notice to arrange her funeral; otherwise, the funeral home would start charging us. They traveled all the way to Maryland to conduct the service for my 84-year-old mom and have provided immense support to my family. I felt a strong urge to reciprocate the kindness we've received in equal measure.
My husband and I had been trying to find a church home for our family, and we are beyond thrilled to have found Mount Olive Baptist Church in Centerville, VA. The first Sunday we visited happened to be the Sunday the church held the ministry fair in which visitors and members can sign up to serve in different church committees and organizations. We felt so welcomed, at home, and compelled that we signed up for the decorating and culinary committees immediately. We have been serving there and volunteering with the food distribution ministry ever since. We wanted to join a chuch that not only had a great service and welcoming environment, but a church that is serious about doing the work in the local community and beyond. Mount Olive is exactly that. One of the church's mantras is "Serve now, join later." We really appreciated that because there is never any pressure to join (although ultimately, we did). Mount Olive takes hospitality seriously, and that was apparent to us once we received a thank you phone call just for visiting. The deaconess who called took the time to learn about our family, tell us more about the church, and offer her information in case we had any questions. We were extremely impressed with how organized and efficiently the church operated. We also felt authentically welcomed. As a multiracial, blended family without a ton of support in the area it was important to us to feel welcomed, not judged, and authentically connected. We've found all of that and more. Pastor Wilkins' leadership is extraordinary, and it is refreshing to be a part of a church with a plan for growth and expansion. We appreciate the transparency around the church's financial goals as well as the many community service acts the church is able to perform because of tithes and offerings. There is an apparent and deep caring for the church and surrounding community that is shown not only through our pastor's leadership, First Lady Paris' health and wellness initiatives, and all the efforts of those serving in various ways through the church, but also through the kindness and support of those who attend the church. We love how how our children are nurtured and supported through Children's Church, Toddler Kingdom, and various other programs and initiatives the church offers. Mount Olive's investment in the future of the children is intentional, thoughtful and genuine. Our kids love attending and even volunteer with different ministries when they can. Through service they gain a sense of community and purpose. We are so happy to be a members of this church and community and are excited to to continue to grow in Christ and service at Mount Olive.
