My son has severe anxiety and the first preschool he attended needed me to stay at the school with him for 2 months. He never had a problem at Montessori Discovery School. They were very welcoming and worked with him to get over his anxiety. He loves his teachers and all the caregivers. He feels so safe and happy there. They are extremely flexible and supportive. I have never seen another school that allows for that much flexibility. My son has learnt so many incredible things over the past two years. We are so sad to have to leave. I would (and do) recommend this school to anyone with preschool age children.
Both of my children attended the Montessori Discovery School, and we couldn't have been happier with our experience -- we are still seeing the effects years later in their focus and excitement about learning. The teachers were warm, caring, and attuned to individual student needs and development. As well, the before/aftercare program, as well as the summer camp and the "vacation camps," are so helpful and flexible to meet the needs of working parents in the community -- and reasonably priced!
My children thrived at Montessori Discovery. They LOVED their teachers and classmates and felt very safe and happy there. The flexibility of the before and after-school programs is a blessing! When they went onto elementary school, my children were prepared and confident because of their time at MDS.
The Montessori Discovery School has been a part of our family for the past 6.5 years. My older son attended the school for four years (from age 3 through Kindergarten) and my younger son is in his third year (currently in Kindergarten). The school is well organized and run - thanks to the efforts of Elise and Martha. The Kindergarten/Pre-K class led by SallyAnn is truly excellent. She is a tremendous teacher with a lot of experience and is very skillful at managing a classroom of 4, 5 and 6 year olds. The school does a good job blending aspects of the Montessori philosophy of independent learning with structured educational content. My boys really enjoy(ed) attending the school and they thrived as students there. I highly recommend it!
I have had all 3 of my children attend MDS over the last 4 years. We have experienced all 4 of the classrooms with my oldest son attending when he was 4 and for Kindergarten, then my daughter did the 3-day class and 5 days as a 4 year old and now my youngest is there 3 days a week as a 3 year old. The only reason he will not be attending next year is because we are moving cross country! It has been a wonderful, flexible, nurturing experience for us. The ability to use and pay for aftercare/early care on a changing schedule has been a lifesaver for us. Their communications methods are a bit old school, but it has been refreshing. There has always been a bit of teacher turnover, but the school and children have handled the transitions with ease. Teachers are warm and great at catering lessons to each individual child. It is not a strict Montessori school. They have colorful toys and learning "work". But, I do appreciate the Montessori methods/influences of the school. We will greatly miss MDS and it's staff!
