I am writing this review to share a very troubling experience my 4 year old niece had while attending Miss Kathy Daycare, which led us to immediately unenroll her. During outdoor playtime, the teacher responsible for her care openly stated that she would not be applying sunscreen to my niece because, according to her, a previous parent had once told her that their African American child didn’t “need” sunscreen. Hearing this come directly from a teacher was alarming not only was it factually wrong and unsafe, but it was also racially insensitive and discriminatory. Sunscreen is a basic health and safety measure for all children, and there is no excuse for a caregiver to ignore a child’s needs based on stereotypes or a comment from another parent. This incident left us shocked and deeply concerned, as it revealed both a lack of proper training in sun safety and a disregard for treating all children equally and respectfully. Parents trust daycare providers to protect their children and make sound, unbiased decisions, and unfortunately that trust was broken. I urge other parents to be cautious and ask very direct questions about sunscreen policies, staff training, and cultural sensitivity before enrolling their children here. Until Miss Kathy’s addresses these issues with clear policies and accountability, I cannot recommend this daycare.
I HIGHLY recommend Miss Kathy’s ELC. My daughter has been going since she was 2 and LOVES it there! The curriculum is outstanding. My daughter was counting to 10 in Spanish AND learned some sign language..all by 2 1/2. The teachers are great and are very involved with all of the children.
Very disappointed with my experience. I had to unenroll my child after finding they felt she didn’t deserve to put on sunscreen because she is black. My daughter came home and informed me that sunscreen was given to her classmates and when i asked the teacher, Shelly, about it she told me she “asked other black parents and they said they don’t wear it”. One person does not speak for an entire race of people. It is extremely inappropriate and dangerous to group people together solely based on race. In 2025 I expect much better. This initially was not meant to be about race before Ms. Shelly’s remark and her confusing me with another black parent. There were several instances when the teachers failed to communicate changed with me, when i adressed this fact I was met with hostility.
very negative experience with my granddaughter. A shame she would experience prejudice before she even understands what it means. Shame on Miss Shelly for her remarks and ignorance towards black people.
Our son goes to Miss Kathy’s ever since he was 2yo and he loves his teachers and friends. Miss Kathy’s played a big role in developing his independence, self confidence and social skills. Also, with its excellent VPK program, our son’s transition to Kindergarten was smooth and stress-free for all of us 😀. We absolutely love and recommend this school.
