What Parents Say
Miller Child Development Center receives overwhelmingly positive feedback regarding staff professionalism, cleanliness, and child care quality, with one parent reporting a serious incident involving rough handling and nail marks on their child's arm that resulted in licensing intervention and a safety plan.
My children were going to Miller Child Development Center on the southeast side. I came in to pick up my kids and peeked through a window to see how my toddler was doing. I witnessed the daycare teacher grabbing my son roughly digging her nails into his arms, lifting him, and then putting him down roughly (to remove him from a play area). I immediately told head staff and inspected my son. He had a nail mark in his arm from how hard she was gripping him. I reported them to licensing. The owner stated he also reported themselves but they refused to move my son to another room. Licensing viewed the video (which also showed my son holding the injured arm crying and the teacher ignoring the pain she caused him) and the employee was written up along with a safety plan put in place (she's no longer allowed to work alone). The owner told me accidents happen and basically if my family or I'm better at watching my own child then I should watch him myself. I immediately withdrew them from the daycare. I don't know about y'all but I know not to dig my nails into my children's arms. If you know any parents who have kids there tell them to make drop in visits and check their kids for mysterious marks and bruises. My toddler had 4 busted lips in the 8 months he attended. Which is weird because he never gets injured like that at home and he has 6 other siblings. I believe she should be fired but the daycare cared more about protecting her instead of our children. Originally the owner only wanted to make her go to extra training but the licensing demanded a safety plan put in place which included her not being allowed to work alone. What angered me the most was that the daycare acted like I was the one in the wrong for notifying other parents and that it was just an accident. You don't accidentally dig your nails into a child's arm.
