What Parents Say
Parents consistently praise Mercer's Child Care Center (La Petite Academy of Baltimore) for its caring and experienced staff, nurturing environment, and engaging activities. The facility provides meals, diapers, and wipes, with recent leadership improvements enhancing organization and classroom resources. Children show strong developmental progress and emotional attachment to teachers.
Our family has been going to LaPetite at Sinai for 3 years now. Our children (4 and 2) are thriving in this warm and nurturing environment. The teachers and staff are phenomenal! They truly care about all of their students and make a special effort to get to know them as individuals. Every day the children receive a freshly cooked breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack. The staff is respectful of dietary choices and restrictions. The school also provides all of the diapers and wipes. Our children have participated in a variety of activities here over the years, including piano lessons, soccer, music classes, cooking, talent shows, art galleries, dance parties, and holiday gatherings. The staff enjoy planning activities and there is always something special happening. The outdoor playgrounds have recently been renovated and will be ready for spring 2026. In addition, our children have developed important social, responsibility, and communication skills. We are very thankful for our experiences here at LaPetite Sinai!
Do not recommend. The teachers are great, unfortunately there are not enough teachers, turnover is frequent, and management is non-responsive. There were 4 different directors during my 2 years enrolled and each new director seemed to do what they wanted without oversight or consideration of the teachers or parents. I ultimately withdrew after multiple weeks with last minute schedule changes due to staffing (e.g., classes closed or requests for late drop off or early pickup due to being short staffed). Sadly, management has not improved as I am due a refund for an overpayment and have received no response despite multiple emails.
Edit: Our original review was made in November after weeks of being pressed to leave positive reviews. The care our child received shortly after that review took a significant nose dive. We have since removed our child from La Petite for many reasons. Based on our experience we no longer felt this center was the best fit for us to ensure our child was well cared for. There is a rotating door of employees. Our personal experiences from the center director at the time felt very unprofessional which further encouraged our decision to change centers. There were still some stars there such as Ms. Velvet who we miss dearly but overall not the best environment for child development. If the management is the same now as it was in January, please consider other options.
Horrible experience with this facility, specifically with the directors. My son attended from 2021-2023. During summer of 2022, facility shut down suddenly due to teacher/child ratios, staff out of compliance with education/paperwork, and other various issues. Director and staff would not explain what was happening initially, just called parents during the work day and asked for children to be picked up immediately. The situation was handled extremely poorly and we were only issued a partial refund for the days the daycare was shut down. I also had some discrepancies on my account with charges that were never resolved, despite multiple calls and emails to the director. The teachers were all very nice and treated my son well, but the management is absolutely terrible. Would not recommend sending your child to this facility.
I initially toured La Petite in early 2023 and didn’t have a ton of faith in the program, it felt very disorganized and the center director (at that time) didn’t instill a lot of confidence. We ended up with no other options in late 2023 and my daughter started in the infants class in Jan 2024. Ms. V was INCREDIBLE with her and my daughter was running into her arms at dropoff within a few weeks. It was clear that the classroom staff had good intentions but classrooms were often understaffed and under resourced. But then, Ms. Ty started as director. Since Ms. Ty started, my faith in the center’s leadership has skyrocketed. She has revamped several classrooms and really seems to understand childhood development. These last several months with Ms. Ty at the helm have been amazing! I can’t thank the teachers enough for their care for my daughter through the difficult times with leadership and we’re so grateful for Ms. Ty and the energy and organization she’s brought to the center!
