This place is awesome! Not only do they help you get back on your feet when you find yourself residentially challenged, but the food... OMG totally not what I expected AT ALL! Healthy meals and delicious, I really love this place so happy to be at Martha's Kitchen and Village. I have been homeless for 14 years and having a SAFE place and a bed to come home too every night is something I only could dream of and now I finally have that. And the showers too, hot water and an accommodating variety of types ie: ♿️ shower as well as a bathtub with a handicap accessible bench.
I was greeted really nicely, absolutely very welcoming, as the gentleman who first receives the call transfers me to another department (C&E) , another gentleman answered " what's up bro how can I help you, yeah what do you need " in a not welcoming voice at all , it was very unpleasant If I considered trying this out definitely am no longer doing that if the social workers are this disrespectful I can only imagine the rest, I do not generalize because I know for a fact everyone is not the same. Although despite this I was asked if I wanted to be put on the waiting list very rudely ,I honestly am very disappointed about this. I don't communicate here on my review my housing status just because I have reviewed in the past at several other places. My recommendation, don't take it personal if they're rude follow through & keep pushing until you get where you want to be even although and despite the circumstances call back even though you may not want to. Blessings to everyone 🙏🏼
Food was good volunteers nice. The caseworker was exceptional. But I was told to call at 5:00 to see if I was going to get a bed which I was informed earlier that I would since I just got out of the hospital because of a woman in her car hit me and I couldn't walk I ended up walking over 2 miles that day with a walker. More than likely I will need surgery again to fix the damage the walking did. And it's all good because after register I know that gets the shelter money for me needing a place to stay. And all the funds that California got from the government will go to good cause I'm sure there's some official out there that needs a new house remodeled car kid needs braces God forbid helping a guy out who just got run over by a car has no place to go and has worked all his life and if he could work now he would be but yet there's people out there in a bed have no plans on working never did doing dope all that and that's okay I don't think so.
I came here with my fiancé and it was our first time ever being in homeless shelters. They had beds empty for us but did not put us together, I felt very unsafe. There were men in beds around me and had aggressive behavior. I asked to be put in the bed next to my fiance because the men scared me. .
Residential staff are very rude. If they don't like you they will hurt your childern and call c.p.s. on you. Be very careful checking into this place. If your diabetic like me, good luck. Security needs to learn how to talk to people like people. If your a single parent of a toddler or infant and don't feel comfortable having them out of your site, you won't be able to eat either, Andy's #4 is a block away and will cost about $50 a day of you want to eat.
