This review has been a long time coming. We've needed considerable time to process the emotional toll that our experience at Marley's placed on our family. While the facility appears clean and organized at first glance, our 2-year-old's six-month enrollment revealed significant issues with their approach to early childhood development. The administration frequently labeled normal toddler behaviors (such as removing shoes or expressing emotions) as "disruptive." Their discipline methods were particularly troubling - they implemented time-outs where the child must remain completely silent and still before the timer even begins, turning what they claim is "one minute per age" into much longer periods of isolation for very young children. Even bragging that sometimes it took children 30 minutes of time out to calm down. Communication with leadership proved challenging. The director presents warmly during tours and parent meetings, yet becomes defensive and confrontational when discussing discipline approaches or child development concerns. When discussing philosophy, the director openly expressed disdain for contemporary child development concepts like "gentle parenting," dismissing them as "permissive" while advocating for more punitive approaches. There is a concerning disconnect between words and actions. The director frequently claims to value collaboration with parents to address challenges, yet in practice operates with an inflexible "my way or the highway" mentality. Parental input about what works best for their specific child is consistently dismissed. Instead, we were pressured to implement the school's preferred discipline methods at home, including time-outs, regardless of our family's values or our child's individual needs. This rigid approach undermined the parent-school partnership essential for supporting young children. Most concerning was their practice of sending our child home early for typical toddler behaviors, despite this policy not appearing anywhere in their handbook and without sufficient notice. This "policy" was implemented immediately after the very first time we suggested a different approach to time-outs, which we believed would work better for our child. This inconsistency created unnecessary stress and disruption for our family of fulltime working parents. Parents considering this school should be aware that their expectations appear misaligned with normal developmental stages for toddlers. While some families may prefer their structured approach, I would caution parents who value developmentally appropriate practices and genuine parent-school collaboration to thoroughly investigate their disciplinary philosophy and classroom management techniques before enrolling. Feel free to message me for specific examples and screenshots of messages sent from the school, which have caused many parents to drop their jaws when read. Luckily, our child thrived at their new pre-school (never once getting complaints from the school) and has largely forgotten the trauma from Marley's, however, as parents it is much more difficult to forget. I hope this feedback encourages the school to reconsider their approach to early childhood education and align their practices with current understanding of child development.
