What Parents Say
Looking Glass Child Development Center receives mostly positive reviews praising staff care, curriculum quality, and facility cleanliness. However, two negative reviews cite high staff turnover, unprofessional front desk interactions, and a serious concern about inadequate response to a CPS-substantiated complaint of physical harm by a teacher.
I can only comment on the infant/toddler part of the center, but my daughter went here for 1.5 years before we moved and we loved it! The kitchen staff were very accommodating of my daughter's allergies, and the front desk staff always greeted us and my daughter by name and with a smile. There was a bit of turnover with the teachers, but the lead teachers were typically the same at least, and that didn't seem to affect care. We were always confident that my daughter was safe, and we loved the teachers my daughter had over the time she was there! I appreciated that they took the time to talk about how my daughter was doing and any concerns they had daily. I recommend this center and wish we could have taken them with us!
Our 1.5 year old daughter was enrolled for 3 months and we had a fantastic experience at Looking Glass Child Development Center. The teachers were a joy to communicate with and genuinely cared for our daughter. The facility is immaculate, the food they provided was nutritious (and generous), and they always had planned activities. She loved coming in everyday and we loved seeing her progress. We had a new addition to our family so we had to pull our daughter out but I would highly recommend Looking Glass Child Development Center!
Looking Glass Child Development Center is amazing child care. My daughter truly looks forward to going to preschool every day. Each day my daughter is greeted by her first name and with a huge welcoming smile. ALL the staff are beyond amazing and are truly passionate about what they do. The staff knows best practices in early childhood, and it shows in the care that my daughter receives each day. The curriculum, assessment, and enrichment programs are Outstanding! I know that by the center using a researched based curriculum and assessment that my daughter is getting prepared for Kindergarten. I am well informed about my child’s day and love the communication daily with the teacher and her daily sheet. Looking Glass Child Development Center is truly a one of a kind center, as a mother, I could not ask for better childcare!
After CPS substantiated a complaint that my child's teacher intentionally caused physical harm to a student, their recommendation was for the individual to "not return to the classroom or work unsupervised with children of any age." Looking glass/Childtime management found it more appropriate to not discipline the teacher and place that teacher in a room with much younger children. I would not recommend sending a child to any Childtime operated facility (Looking Glass, Tutor Time, Gilden Woods, or Apple Tree). It is clear their concern is making money, not the health and well-being of the children. Make sure to investigate any potential daycares for liscensing violations on the state website.
This is our 3rd Center for our daughter. She was at an in home center at 12 weeks. Then attended the corporate centers Apple Tree for several years. Then last year we bought a home in Dewitt and came to Looking Glass. Prior to Looking glass opening I toured every single center in the Dewitt area. I was so disappointment with the options and centers available. The leading center in the area was still not up to my standards and didn't get a very positive feeling. Then I heard of Looking Glass opening through a friend. I spoke with the owner and schedule a tour. We have been in love with this center from day 1. The staff, the owners, the other parents. I have nothing but positive things to say about this center for my daughter. I've been extremely impressed with what she has learned and grown over the last year. Coming home with new Spanish words, to sharing exciting stories of the teachers and staff. She feels loved and accepted by the center and so do we. My daughter has experienced accidents from time to time as well as sick bugs. Every incident was handled professionally and with love by Looking Glass staff. Thank you for everything over this past year. We are sad to be starting Kindergarten this fall and loosing our Looking Glass family.
