What Parents Say
LA BRANCH CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER has highly polarized reviews. Positive reviews praise the loving teachers, age-appropriate activities, good communication, and personal attention to children. Negative reviews report serious concerns including alleged staffing ratio violations, unsafe outdoor practices, lack of engagement with children, poor staff communication, and inadequate supervision.
This is a Kindercare company that operates illegally out of ratio. The preschool teacher would be in the room alone with almost 30 children and the infant teacher with almost 8 babies alone, daily. The pre-k teacher is always absent. Twice within 6 months two teachers quit at the same time, which is 4 teachers total. And ironically it was the infant and preschool teachers that quit each time. This center has been reported to state licensing more than once, so I wouldn’t recommend if you want the best environment for your child.
We love La branch and have both our sons enrolled here. The teachers have fun and new things for the toddler to do each week and our infant is taken well care of. I would recommend La branch to anyone!
Our experience at La Branch was very personal and special. Our son was here for one year, from 18 mos to 30 mos. He developed tremendously well with the help of this center and had a great time doing it. And so did we! They always had fun activities on the schedule, sent us lots of pictures, surprised us with meaningful artwork, communicated well with us and just generally did an excellent job by and for our precious little guy. We just can't say enough about everyone but especially Miss Judy who introduced us to the center and was there day in and day out with a warm smile, and Miss TeAnna who somehow oversaw the whole school while still having personal relationships with each of the children, and of course Miss Trina and Miss Rachel who spent the year teaching and loving our son. We left Houston in June 2020 but we still to talk to our son about his wonderful time at La Branch. It truly is a very special place with very special people. We consider them our family and when we think of them and our time there, we think of home.
One day, I picked up my child from school and noticed he had a black eye. When I contacted Ms. Judith, she inquired with Ms. D, whose response was, "I don't know." I've even left work early to drop in unexpectedly, only to find staff on their phones or with their heads down. In another incident, Ms. Pat grabbed my son's arm, and when I tried to discuss the situation with the director, Ms. Tianna, she merely took notes without addressing the issue, which has only worsened over time. This school presents a polished image when parents are dropping off their children, but the reality is quite different. The staff often engage in inappropriate behavior when they believe no one is watching. To the lady who responded to my post, please do not attempt to defend this daycare. We both know the issues that occur within this facility. Furthermore, it is imperative to hire staff who are patient, healthy, and kind to the children.
I pulled my son after four days. Each day was increasingly worse. I trusted that it was a good program, because it was naeyc accredited and I am very familiar with naeyc standards. I am sad to say, I relied too heavily on that and should have never taken my infant here. Just a few points of many: The staff does not communicate well between themselves, including administration. It took me several weeks of reaching out to them to even get him enrolled. Then I was continuously asked things that should have been in his file and given conflicting information. The staff was less than interested in engaging with my child. I was told to place him "in the buggy" every morning at arrival. I alternated my arrival times to see if they would be more available later in the day, but not once did anyone physically take my baby from me at exchange. They seemed to be completely flabbergasted that my baby was cloth diapered. I have not had this response from any other school we toured.
