This school is not a good fit for children with special needs. Despite providing documentation and communicating my child's diagnosis with the entire staff, we received little to no support or accommodations. Instead, we were met with repeated complaints, making it clear that the school was not willing to adjust to his needs. Last year, my son was excluded from nearly all school activities and field trips unless I could attend in person. I had to take time off work, only to find out transportation wasn't even arranged for him. I ended up missing a full day of work—and when the teacher later rescheduled the trip, I couldn't take more time off. It was later confirmed by his new kindergarten teacher, Ms. Medina, that my son was isolated from his peers for the entire school year. That broke my heart. If my child isn’t allowed to be in a class with neurotypical children, then the school should help guide me toward other resources or support systems. Instead, they offered nothing. I also requested a bus stop accommodation and was willing to pay any associated fees, but this was denied without explanation. This school system does not serve children with special needs, and that is a serious concern. Additionally, the drop-off and pick-up process is extremely inefficient. If you have children in Comunidad, College Prep, and Collegiate, expect to spend over an hour navigating the traffic. If you're late—due to the impossible traffic conditions—staff members often take it out on the children, which is unfair and unprofessional. Many parents work and simply cannot arrive at 2 PM every day. This experience has been deeply disappointing. The school must do better to support all students, not just the ones who fit into a narrow mold.

Completely Unacceptable Treatment of Special Needs Child My autistic son, who has a very limited vocabulary, was left in a soiled diaper for an extended period of time at KIPP Austin Comunidad. Instead of providing proper care, staff called me claiming he had diarrhea and needed to be picked up. When I arrived, he was not sick — he had simply been left unchanged. When I followed up, the Special Education Coordinator admitted their “protocol” is to not change children at all, even those in special education who cannot fully communicate their needs. This is neglectful, unhygienic, and harmful to a child’s dignity. Parents should be able to trust that their children’s basic needs will be met at school, especially for students with disabilities. Based on my experience, this school failed my child and showed no urgency to correct the problem.

I have had my children for years now at KIPP schools and Comunidad has been doing great with their education. My Kindergartener child has learned to read and write since PreK4 and every teacher they have had has been very caring and supportive! The communication skills are great, they answer messages the same day to our concerns. School bus drivers are part of this team success, they don’t let kids off the bus without proper information. The front office staff is always very welcoming and prepared to ask for IDs even if we seem familiar. The school principal, Ms. Doyle is always present for after school activities and award ceremonies, she’s very involved with her team and family. My children feel safe and comfortable sharing their concerns at any moment with their teachers and that makes me feel safe as well.

I am writing to express my concern regarding the recent experience I had while picking up my child from school . Unfortunately, the process was quite disorganized, and my child was kept waiting for a long period without clear communication or supervision.

I’m a student at the school and I’m really happy with the quality here like in how the teachers teach their kids and I also do love the cafeteria food. There is one time where they made tamales and there were so freaking good like I am in love with them now I’ve always liked tamales but these are so good and if you want your kid to try out a new school, just at least try Kipp there’s really good quality and really good food and there’s also programs for your kid like drama art probably even science I’m not sure I didn’t really get to experience all of them because I was in drama and trust me it was amazing! I was the stage crew manager there and at first it did seem a little difficult, but once you start getting to know the crew and all the people in drama then it’s gonna seem a lot easier and whenever you get to see what you created then you’re gonna be so happy but seriously try this school out. It’s amazing and I did have low grades at fist but my teacher helped me in different ways and then I got my grades up, so please just try this school From your student
