Myself and friend went to the Fayetteville Boys & Girls Club on May 13, 2025 at 6:15pm to play basketball as we do every week. We were part of the first 10 who showed up but for whatever reason we were not chosen to play, which isn’t the norm for how pickup is done, but we sat out anyways. The 10 who were playing were acting wild throughout the game, at one point a man was yelling and jogging out of the gymnasium doors. I thought he was going to get a gun out of his car but he was telling another man to go outside to fight. After the game, we walked onto the court to play and one of the men said “run it back”. They then told us we need to put our name on a list to play, which there isn’t a list. I said to them “This is bull***t, ya’ll know we were waiting to play”. Te man in the grey said sarcastically, “Oh..they’re white boys they think we gotta let them play”, meaning because we are white we are entitled so we think we get to play. I then said “It’s not our fault that the losing team wasn’t good enough to win and hold the court. That team lost. We’re playing and we’ll pickup 3 players from the losing team.” One of the players from the losing team started to say something to me and the man in the grey shirt stopped him and said “Let it go let it go don’t get involved” and they started the game as we stood on the side. The man in the grey may have been the most blatantly racist person I’ve ever come across in my life. Also if the man in the green shirt on the left in the picture works at the B&G Club Fayetteville and stood by while all of this happened and said nothing, I suggest the B&G Club have a talk with him to see if his integrity and beliefs matches with the organization. He and none of the others said nothing. A few of them did say things, but things that were blatant racism and the others didn’t have courage to step in. I hate to say this but it needs to be said, imagine if 10 white guys told 2 black guys they weren’t allowed to play and because they are black they think they are entitled to play. We ended up leaving and going to play somewhere else and were refunded our money by the person working the front door. In no way (I hope) do these 10 people represent what the B&G Club stands for and I’m calling for them to be banned from the building. Having those type of people in there is not good for kids to see or be around and I hope that doesn’t happen again.
I have been coming to swim for several years also starting using the gym equipment , and the walking tracks (indoor & outdoor tracks) The facilities are always clean, the showers are old, yet cleaned during the day while it’s getting dirty, they keep up well! The building itself beautiful, frosted windows in the pool area, equipment maintained upstairs in the gym as well. If I notice things that need maintaining and shortly after it’s fixed..the staff has always been attentive, kind and professional.. I am grateful for the cost and the fact catering to seniors and kids..
Another fabulous basketball game for my grandson and his team!
If you care about your children, STAY AWAY! I was warned about the Boys and Girls Club of Fayetteville not being a safe place by my son's pediatrician, teachers, and also a very professional person in a higher position at his school. I really wish I would have listened to them. It was an absolute nightmare. My 10 year old son was abused and neglected during the 2018-2019 school year. There were fights and bullying constantly among all the kids. Another older, larger student picked my son up and body slammed him to the ground, breaking his collar bone. Not one single person notified me of his injury. I only found out when I picked my son up from the boys and girls club of Fayetteville, and he was still crying from the horrible pain he was in. When I called to speak to the director, he seemed to hardly care and acted inconvenienced by my phone call. He refused to give me any information at all. The staff is unprofessional as well. Most seem like children themselves. A female working in the office was dressed completely inappropriately (visibly missing undergarments) to be in the workplace. This place is a disaster. If I had not have had so little time to find after school care when I moved to Fayetteville, I never would have taken him to this facility. I'm happy I got him out of there. I feel bad for any children who are left in their "care". They need major improvements.
This place is amazing!! My young girls have gone the past 3 summers. So far it's been really great. They have so much fun and really enjoy themselves. I think this program gives kids so many different things to do throughout the day rather a babysitter or Daycare. I highly recommend them.
