One of the greatest gyms I've ever been part of. The place is clean, people are nice, and there is a wide range of activities. I wish the org designer had added a little more space upstairs, but overall spectacular facilities.
A nice, spacious YMCA in a new building with the latest gym equipment. But I prefer the Greenfield YMCA in MA for their staff and their caring approach to their visitors. This place lacks in that department.
A recent experience - I'm 77 and the Silver Sneakers part of my insurance pays my monthly membership fee for my YMCA in Florida. I live in Spofford for the summer and under the YMCA nationwide reciprocity have used the Keene YMCA for almost 10 years, except during the pandemic when it was rescinded temporarily. I was told via phone call that unless I can show I have used my "home" Y at least 50% of the time for any 28 day period then my reciprocity does not apply. Of course, this is not possible in my case, and I was informed the alternative is to pay for a second membership or pay a daily fee for use. The imperious woman on the phone, who was comfortable interrupting and talking over me, couldn't tell me how many visits are allowed for a 28 day period before this rule takes effect so it all sounded arbitrary and inflexible. In the past a nice and accommodating staff that knew me asked me to please be judicious in use so I kept my gym visits to 10 times in a month max, and most months much less than that. I know it's up to them to run the business as seen fit, but apparently there is new management there doing what it can to maximize revenues in any way possible...with attitude! I can get a one month membership to Planet Fitness on Ash Brook Road for about what the Keene YMCA wants for a daily pass, so I'll be going there instead.
The staff are friendly, helpful and keep a watchful eye on the children. There is a fun rockwall, pool, basketball courts, exercise equipment and neat play area for children if you want to have them play while you exercise.
I wouldn’t bring my dog to the YMCA preschool at JD. Terrible providers. Bad administrators. Disorganized classrooms. Then they will blame your 3 year old for their disorderly class rooms. These aren’t educators they are babysitters who make you come pick up your kid if they have a bad day. Your kid won’t learn here. I’ve witnessed teachers losing their cool and screaming at kids. Worst preschool experience ever. Save your money and your kid’s education and avoid this place.
