I graduated in '08 and looking back I absolutely hated that my mother made us go to this school. They did not prepare me for college, I was completely misinformed and uneducated when it came to FAFSA and scholarships. I found out afterwards that there were teachers that were racist as hell, students were told that they were not going to be taught the full curriculum because they believed the students were not smart enough to learn it. This school for the most part are all minorities, low-income families, and first generation kids whose parents don't know that they're sending their kids to a school that will set them up for mediocrity and failure. It's a charter school which sounds nice, but your kids are just money bags to them. This school's history is full of shady financial interactions (the original superintendents were caught stealing money from the school), they do not invest money in upgrades and if they do it takes years for them to do so. I did get a slightly better education than some of my peers because I was in the honor roll program but I was not allowed to take college credited classes. Why? They never gave me a good reason but to be honest, there were racial issues behind it. I graduated 4th in my class and took all the classes the top 3 did but when it came to a point where I could advance, they held me back. The top 3 students were white and were all very close to to staff. Also, don't expect your privacy to be respected. They called CPS on my mom for abuse and when the police took pictures of one of my siblings, the principal allowed any teacher to look at these pictures. Pictures that showed his bare behind and back covered in welts. Whenever I needed my high school transcript for college, they were trying to charge me the fee twice (it wasn't much, maybe $5) because they misplaced my original request and couldn't find it. The one good thing I could say about this school is that they have a tendency to hire good math teachers, but even they get fed up and eventually leave.

Staff/Faculty & Principal at A+ elementary has no clue as to what they are doing. This school is very run down, unkept, DIM lights, the administration office is a 'hot mess' pure trashy/nasty looking. I just took a quick glance at the cafeteria but couldn't see very much because the lights were so dim. What I have observed so far and from a lots of the reviews this school academics is VERY bad. Everyday I talk with my child and ask what they 'did and learned in class', according to my child they are left basically to teach themselves with little to no instructions from the teachers. I'm told by my child that for the most part the teachers just sit them in front of the computers or give them their workbook and tell them to do their work assignment (that is fine and acceptable once the teacher has gone over the lesson plan with the students). VERY SELDOM DO THEY HAVE HOMEWORK, AND IF THEY TAKE CLASS NOTES THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BRING THEM HOME (what good is class notes when you can't bring them home to study? No homework?, NEVER HEARD OF IN 'DISD' SCHOOLS). I transferred my child out of DISD school (and they were doing well academically & on the STAAR test; A+ Academy elementary have their report to prove my claim) thinking they would advance further academically at A+ Academy elementary. If A+ Academy elementary don't make any academics improvement REAL soon that dream of my child advancing won't become reality! I'm thinking seriously about moving my child back to DISD school. I should have paid more attention to the reviews I read, and I HIGHLY recommend that you pay close attention to these reviews and ask more questions. Oh! The safety of our kids?, don't fool yourself. The faculties at A+ Academy elementary think its more safe to allow the parents to drive thru the parking lot when dropping off students; remind you that other students must walk through this same parking lot to get to the gym because the faculty WILL NOT allow them to come in through the front door of the building (there isn't anyone directing the traffic, IT'S A TOTAL MESS IN THE MORNINGS!). Now, about the after school pickup ( I was so DUMBFOUNDED and could not believe my eyes!), this totally lies in the hand of the PRINCIPAL. (PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT I'M ABOUT TO SAY): parents are allowed to drive thru the mist of a crowd of elementary students to pickup their child ( A recipe for disaster!), NOT just one row of cars but TWO rows of cars pulling thru at the same; God forbid, THIS IS A DISASTER WAITING TO HAPPEN! (don't waste your time trying to reason with the faculty or PRINCIPAL because they will accuse you of being upset or frustrated) NOW, how wise are the faculty at A+ Academy elementary?!
