Kama'Aina Kids- St Marks

Teachers have truly enriched, nutured and brought out the best in my VERY "spirited" toddler. He has grown, learned, and advanced on so many levels; as well as becoming independent. In just the last month, his understanding of every thing from recognizing the names of animals from their pictures AND remembering the sounds they make; to vastly being able to grasp concepts of conversing, interacting, cause and effect, as well as being responsible for his actions. My son has been in this school for almost 2 years and I am confident that the staff at St. Marks are hugely responsible for how well my son has advanced and all of the positive changes and adjustments that are consistently shown in his behavior and comprehension skills.

Tough love here. I never write bad reviews, but this time I felt the need to. The staff at this school were very nice to me and I was lucky to be able to sit in the classroom with my 3 year old for two weeks. This place lacks nurture and a level of organization to keep kids from wanting to fight one another, or to want to sit and participate orderly for circle time.The teacher kid ratio is 12 to 1, no aid. It is the legal ratio in the state, but unavoidably leads to chaos. Kids more often than not when there is no second teacher in the classroom which is almost always, go to the bathroom unsupervised, where they sit on a clean or not toilet seat. They also get yelled at to be told what is "wrong" on a constant basis, making them as well as the kids that are not being yelled at cry. I saw a couple teachers throughout the school who seemed to be nurturing to kids, but the majority were quite rough. The playground and classroom are really nice, kids do enjoy the physical place. But the emotional part of it to me was off. I couldn't keep my child there.
