What Parents Say
The Orchard School at Andrus is a therapeutic educational facility for children with behavioral and emotional challenges. Most recent reviews are highly positive, praising the dedicated staff, beautiful campus, and transformative impact on children. However, there are serious allegations from former students regarding staff misconduct and unsafe conditions.
PLEASE DONT TAKE YOUR KID to this nightmare. I’ve been Bruce countless times by the staff just one staff mr.sam ran after this other kid like actually wanted to assault how can people be so sick in this modern world. I was only seven. I have been having therapy for six years because of this hell I BEG your child is not safe pls go to Airline Dr., Academy trust it’s a lot better than this nightmare. But i’m doing better. Im now good that was the most fake smile ever.
I am so incredibly pleased with The Orchard School at Andrus for my child. Not only is the campus beautiful and breathtaking, but the faculty and staff who dedicate their time here are phenomenal! For the first time in a very long time, my son wakes up and is excited about going to school, excited about his SUPERSTAR of teacher Mr. Brian, excited about seeing his classmates and excited about the therapeutic services at school. I have seen a true difference in my son since he’s been attending The Orchard School and he has developed a sense of pride about the school as well. He really enjoys building relationships with the staff members who are there to assist him to be the best version of him he can be and I thank them for their dedication. I am so happy that a therapeutic educational setting like this is available for children who desperately need it. Thank you Andrus!!!
it’s like auschwits only they dont care about your religion. if your kids get better they are scared, not better. i was there for 8 months and got desensitized to fighting and/or abuse. staff was a hit or miss, either they turned a blind eye and let stuff happen, picked on you, or were very good. i had a lot of staff mock me when i had panic attacks. i have been out for over 7 years, and my parents say it was the biggest regret of their life. it only made me resent them for the abuse i was put through, i only got better because i wanted to.
4 years ago when the NYC public school system told me that there wasn’t anything else they could do to help my son because they had limited resources & the school he was in wasn’t the right environment for him, Andrus accepted him for what he was & offered to help him start over & grow over time into something better. The beginning was hard. There are a lot of realities you have to accept in order to start to heal and to move forward. You can’t just drop your kid off there & expect the school to change them overnight. It really takes a team effort. there are teachers, counselors & staff there that truly care about helping the kids & there are staff members there who are learning on the job. It is not easy & it is not for everyone. If you are willing to be loving, patient. Very patient. Involved and if you are willing to stand by your child no matter what the phases are that they go through during their time there then you will be ok. For all the comments I see about the bad kids there, there are also a lot of good kids there who just need an opportunity to work with someone who cares. If you’re a parent reading this now and you’re tired. Stressed out and unsure about the future I can tell you that for me and my son Julian, Andrus was a step in the right direction.
Great place to work. Staff are friendly and respectful. Children are good kids who just need a lot of guidance and support. Most just need better role models at home. The facility is great. It has many types of activities for children of all ages. Social workers work to ensure proper and age appropriate activities to engage students. The one absolute biggest issue is no security guards walking around on campus in case of bad activity (fights, etc).. Students usually do get out of line and get violent with other students and staff.
