Moving to San Diego with my family was a big leap. New city. New schools. New routines. We knew we needed to find our people. What we didn’t expect was to find a home. But that’s exactly what the Lawrence Family JCC has become for us. I grew up at the J in West Palm Beach. It shaped my childhood with summers at camp, hours in the gym, and friendships that still mean something to me today. And now, more than forty years later, I walk through the doors of another JCC with my own kids. All I can say is that it just feels like home. From the very beginning, the community welcomed us. My kids made friends through afterschool programs before I even knew all their classmates' names. My wife and I started using the gym and joined fitness classes. I signed up for a basketball league. It’s the highlight of my week. I wish I could give this 10 stars. It's so much more than a place. It's the arts and culture events. The holiday celebrations. The pool and playground. The family programs. The deep sense of connection that runs through it all. Whether you come for the fitness center, the performances, or the preschool drop-off line, you end up staying for the people. My family has gained so much from being part of this community, and we’re just getting started. If you’re looking for connection, for meaning, for something real, the J is the place.
This place has absolutely amazing. It has an outdoor pool, gymnastic area, gym, basketball and soccer courts and of course, spaces for social activities. The facilities are super clean and maintained. It's great fun coming here.
The group gym classes are freaking awesome! Especially the Circuit and Cycling ones were way better than I could have ever expected. I'll try the other ones too: they all seem Amazing! Super cool place and people!
If you are looking to purchase a membership in order to use the fitness center, I would highly advise against it. The monthly fee is the same or more expensive than several other local gyms, which are far cleaner, have more equipment, have better AC, and have more helpful staff. They also require you to cancel membership at least 30 days in advance, which means when you want to cancel, they will squeeze another billing cycle out of you, which comes off as very predatory. I joined because it is close to UCSD graduate housing, but now I realize why no other grad students work out there.
My young son goes here and man all I can say is this establishment is absolutely amazing! Everything is so good im not sure where to even start. First, the staff is absolutely amazing. They are super responsive to any questions you might have and are always available for anything you need. Second, the facility itself is absolutely stunning and has some many different options for the children. Lastly, you can just tell they absolutely think about your children first. My son comes every day saying how much fun he has had but also learned to! It's a very special place for our family now and honestly look forward to our sons extended time there!
