What Parents Say
The Jewish Community Center in Scotch Plains receives mixed reviews. While many praise it as a great facility with well-organized programs and good amenities, parents express concerns about limited family programming for school-age children, staff rudeness toward young children, expensive dance classes, and management issues.
It's a nice place for activities but not family time or community sense for families with K-12 kids. The Gym is nice and so are the swimming lessons but during the week if you want to come afternoon with your children to hang out in the pool - it's open until 3PM or after 7:30PM . So that leaves actually no time for "Family fun". Besides that, there are very little activities for ages 10-15. it's basically aiming for very young families or 60+
i love the pools at the jcc, my family only bought memberships for the pools. i had a great experience with the lifegaurds and staff until i met a swim lesson teacher, Martina. She was so incredibly rude to my little siblings (ages 9). Her tone when talking to young kids is horrible and rude. She is constantly targeting my siblings and it almost seems racially motivated. She screamed at my siblings for being in someones lane but 1, no one was in that lane, and 2, its family swim. Another time she wrongly accused my siblings when really it was another swimmer in the wrong lane. It was so rude that she screamed at them even when they did nothing wrong. Later she came hunting me down in the locker room to remind us. This is supposed to be a place for everyone. We felt so targeted we debated canceling our memberships because of Martina. I would not recommend bringing young kids to the pool unless they can stand up for themselves because they are bound to make mistakes and staff like Martina are not understanding.
My daughter have been a member on and off at JCC for one year .I recommend to swimming lessons. Teacher very nice and instructor was great. But the dance class is not worth it. The dance manger no nice. Costumes for performances are expensive and average quality.
Kelly Fetchina has been applauding the Rahway police for violating our first amendment rights. Calling exercising your rights a “waste of t time” and describing auditors as “instigators”. Very concerning and very biased given her place of employment. She should be investigated if she truly is an “educator”
Great place for kids...very organized...my grandkids love it.
