We miss Beth Tikvah! We were members from 2022 to 2024. Our jobs took us to Columbus from California and we found a home at Beth Tikvah. Now we are in Northern California missing the shul a lot.
I visited Congregation Beth Tikvah, a Reform synagogue at 6121 Olentangy River Rd. in Worthington [a suburb of Columbus], Ohio, for my first time on 10-6-2023. I had been planning to visit that community with other members of Worthington Interfaith Neighbors [WIN] but, as it had turned out, only one other member of that group had been present that evening. Congregation Beth Tikvah really knows how to sing. Several times during the evening liturgy, the entire congregation would speak words -- or would sing songs -- in perfect rhythm and in perfect unison. There had been no director but everyone in the room had been speaking or singing perfectly together. Some of the singing had been accompanied by an electric piano and/or a flute; some of the singing had been a capella [without accompaniment]. The highlight of the liturgy on 10-6-2023 had been the unrolling of a long scroll -- the Torah -- that briefly encircled most of the room. The rabbi then walked around the room and briefly explained which section of the Torah he had been passing at the time. After the Torah had been re-rolled and returned to its storage space and the liturgy had ended, we adjourned and then re-convened in a nearby room for some delicious cake [in celebration of an anniversary that I no longer remember] and more conversation. I have heard of Congregation Beth Tikvah for many years; it had been great to be able to visit that community for my first time last Friday.
I have been a member of Congregation Beth Tikvah for over four decades. In the beginning, the temple was a great place for my daughter to receive religious and Hebrew instruction and my husband and I to meet other couples with similar values and interests. My daughter and grandchildren have grown up. My interests have changed over time. Nothing about this synagogue is static either. Many members and temple staff have come and gone. Nevertheless, the temple remains an anchor in my life. My family friends and my faith have evolved over the years and truly complement my aging self. Looking ahead as well as back over my life, Congregation Beth Tikvah is part of my heart and soul.
Congregation Beth Tikvah is the best in Columbus! They are so kind a d welcoming. You feel like part of the family from the moment you walk in the door. They go above and beyond in every aspect, especially in regards to safety. My family and I adore it here.
