What Parents Say
These reviews are not for the daycare program at Irving Park Y.M.C.A., but rather for the overall YMCA facility. The facility receives consistently high ratings (all 5/5 stars) for its gym amenities, fitness classes, pool, and childcare services. Parents and members praise the friendly staff, clean facilities, and good equipment selection.
I have found this to be just what i needed. There are several classes that i enjoy very much, as well as getting a good workout, and a few others i want to try. The cardio and weight rooms on the first floor have lots of up-to-date equipment, and there is another weight room for the really serious lifters. Everyone working there has been great, and i have met lots of friendly people. It is an older building, and the pool is just a pool, not a fancy one with a play area, but it is a nice pool, and the temperature is just right. If you have been meaning to check it out, go for it!
Only hit the weight room this morning. Well maintained facility with a good variety of machines and quite a few squat racks. Dumbbells up to 100 pounds. They call it the "Bears Den" and it's full of Bear's memorabilia.
Great full service Y with classes and weights and sauna and steam! Old converted school with character. Cardio and other machines are like new and clean. Amazing and friendly staff.
I was very impressed. The center has the charm and character of an older YMCA. It’s also got much more and better equipment than I had expected. I visited during COVID, and the cleanliness and customer service far surpassed what I had expected. Adding a few pictures here to help show a bit more of what’s available.
This gym is less than ideal. Though it’s clean enough, the upkeep in general is lacking. Machines sport plenty of duct tape, out of order signs and cracked plastic panels. In the upper weight room, patrons on the weight machines tend to plant themselves and stare at their phones. There seems to be no in-gym supervision. The amenities in the locker room are less than ideal, the showers and the steam rooms sport debris, hair and paper towels on the floors and clogging the drains. Cracked tiles and stained wood make for an unpleasant experience. It’s absolutely a functioning place to work out, but at the price point there are dozens of other gyms that pay more attention to the experience and enjoyment of its patrons. My initial sign on included a Peloton membership initially, this has since been rescinded.
