What Parents Say
Note: Reviews appear to be for Bishop State Community College, not the listed preschool. Reviews are overwhelmingly positive (9 five-star, 1 four-star, 1 one-star rating), with parents/students praising the welcoming staff, quality instruction, and valuable resources. One reviewer criticized the advising department for poor communication and mishandling of student concerns.
My experience with the advising department at Bishop State Community College has been consistently disappointing. Advisors play a critical role in helping students navigate their academic path, yet the level of support provided has fallen short of what students deserve. Advisors are often difficult to reach, and when they do respond, the information given is sometimes incomplete or inconsistent. This creates unnecessary confusion for students who are trying to register for classes, understand degree requirements, or stay on track. Delayed communication has caused avoidable stress and missed deadlines. Another serious concern is the way some advisors interpret student behavior. I’ve witnessed and experienced situations where normal nervousness — which is completely understandable when students are seeking help — was misinterpreted as agitation. This kind of misguiding profiling not only discourages students from asking questions, but also creates an environment where they feel judged rather than supported. Advisors should be trained to recognize the difference between anxiety and hostility, especially in a college setting where many students are already overwhelmed. Bishop State has potential, but the advising system needs significant improvement. Better training, clearer communication, and a more student‑centered approach would make a meaningful difference in helping students feel respected, understood, and properly guided.
Leticia and her supervisor is so incompetent. Leticia will just tell you anything to get you off the phone and doesn't follow up when told of her mistake she will rage bait her supervisor and then the supervisor will do the same. If you want results talk to Mrs. Murphy she knowledgeable and she does the work unfortunately it takes a team. She's the only reliable one on the team of administrative.
Like the slogan says, this “is a great place to start.” I’m so thankful for the patience and help given through the staff here. It’s people like Dr. Victoria Perry, Mr. Patrick Mitchell, Mrs. Gloria Murphy and Christiane Sykes who made my experience much more fulfilling.
I love the friendly atmosphere in this college! Staff are nice and kind, everyone is eager to help. Tarted at the door during the orientation every staff member was smiling and welcoming, I felt the passion of the speakers, they didn't want the new students to go wondering about what they should do. I attending this college to complete some prerequisites for the graduate school, so I am not the regular type of students. But I can tell with confidence this college is an important pillar in the community! and they want to succeed, take the chance and enjoy the experience!
I have tried to reach someone by phone in Human Resources for several days. No messages returned. The automatic greeting message tell you to press the # key to speak with an operator. You never speak to an operator which I am sure is by design. It just keeps reporting the options which no one answers! You call any other professional business you are at least able to speak with an operator. This gives a harbinger of the type of administration you will have to deal with if they answer the phone or you show up in person. Had awful experiences in past attempting to get transcripts. If you want excellence do better.
