I have worked twice recently as an election official at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on voting days when there had been voting in Columbus but not in Upper Arlington. This church is located within Upper Arlington but one of the three precincts that votes at that church is a Columbus precinct. The room where the voting machines are always set up is the former sanctuary. The one strange thing about that room is that there are two large "welcome stations," absolutely huge wooden desks that actually are on wheels and move easily if you lean against them even slightly, near the entrance to the room. The new sanctuary [at the opposite end of the building] is interesting in several ways. The most unique thing about the sanctuary is that the pews are movable, which means that the pews can be set up to face in any direction [typically towards the organ to the south, towards the east wall where there is a large wall hanging, or towards the apse [a new word for me as of the 5-7-2019 election], the curved area on the north side of the sanctuary that has windows that face Northwest Blvd. I remember, several years ago, attending a "sanctuary dedication concert" or an "organ dedication concert" in the new sanctuary but I am unable to figure out at this point which of those events had occurred or the date for that event. I also remember a support group for survivors of Traumatic Brain Injury that had hosted a holiday event once at that church. But what I remember most about Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, because I have lived near that church for most of my life, is the four candles that they set up each December in their front yard, with the message, "O COME O COME IMMANUEL" [a different spelling from what I am used to], and then they light one additional candle each week until all four candles are lit.
Very welcoming for every type of person. Wonderful messages
Welcoming congregation in a beautiful setting.
