The people were friendly, but I was personally disappointed. I went to the 8:45 "traditional" Divine Service, but the only part of it that was traditional were the hymns. Neither of the pastors were in vestments; when the senior pastor approached the chancel, I thought he was the elder. The issue was how the Liturgy was now followed properly--if followed at all. The Agnus Dei was said after confession when the Kyrie is said there. Also, there was one lesson, and it was not the Gospel lesson. The traditional Lutheran setting is for 3 lessons, the third one being the Gospel. Also, at Communion, there was no chalice; all they had were plastic cups, and people threw them in wastebaskets after drinking. I refused to do so; I took it with me and buried it. It is the Blood of Christ, people; come on! Honestly, throughout the entire service, I almost felt like I were in a nondenominational church and not a Lutheran one. They really need to change the service name if this is how they are going to run their services. They need to be clear that they are not liturgical at all. The saving grace was that they were friendly, but I left that service feeling unfulfilled. Maybe I should become Orthodox; they are very reverent and are devoted to tradition.
