Henry Street Settlement @ Castle Ms

A gem of a daycare! The teachers are so lovely and caring, at least the ones I had the pleasure of meeting. My daughter really learns a lot there. The classrooms are very cute and well resourced: so many good quality toys, a wooden play kitchen, puzzles, educational materials galore, dolls, kinetic sand, paints, play dough, loads of books. It seems they have every imaginable toy, which I really didn’t expect since it’s a subsidized center. I think this is as good (and possibly even better!) than many expensive daycares in our area. They also have a wonderful outdoor play terrace which is very important to me as I’m a big believer in outdoor time, I just wish they used it every day, which is not quite the case. They are also very parent-friendly and reasonable in their rules. Heck, even the admin people are so nice and friendly, so I really feel like we found a wonderful little gem of a palce for my daughter. Update: now that my daughter has been here for a couple of years I will say that some of the teachers she’s had are great (warm, affectionate but also tough), others less so. Her first teacher, Mimi really stands out as incredible. Other teachers were also lovely but some really seemed like they were ready to retire and not so enthusiastic. . As in life, kids will have the “pleasure” of meeting teachers they love and others they don’t. The admin is a pleasure to work with. Melody and Wincy are both very kind and knowledgeable, and they have a nice spunk to them. They are patient with parents and our many questions. Strongly recommend attending the free DOE workshops for parents here, I learned so many tips on parenting and met other parents too, as the workshops are a chance for parents to grow our community. I wish Patricia and Shannon (from DOE) were still hosting these, they were always a highlight to the day. Meals and snacks at Henry St are so-so and unfortunately parents are not allowed to send their kids to school with healthier snacks or beverages. Brekafast is often cold (cold milk, starch-heavy cereal). I wish there was more emphasis on warm herbal teas (which my daughter loves and are healthier for their little stomachs), fresh fruit and veggies. Still worthy of 5 stars? You betcha! Henry St is a needle in a hay stack in this area, a wonderful, nurturing place for parents to send their lil ones, and it’s affordable! And it has wonderful staff!

Excellent service from both teachers and staff.I am satisfied with the level of improvement my child as gain . Office staff are always willing to help and greet you with a smile . They are easy to talk to.I am recommending this school
