What Parents Say

Such a wonderful church. I love the old time small church feel that HBC offers. Pastor Mark is fabulous. His sermons are so relatable and easy to follow. Everyone associated with HBC are one of a kind. They bend over backwards to help others without hesitation. HBC just feels like home and the atmosphere is just amazing. This 132 year old church is perfect
I first visited this church last year when I heard about their deaf ministry. I was instantly greeted by both the deaf and hearing members of the church. Pastor Mark has gone above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome. Whenever I come, he shakes my hand, signs Good Morning, and takes an interest in my family. He seems to know almost everyone by name. His sermons are incredible. They perfectly balance the service. There are about 20 minutes of announcements, music, scripture reading, and a children’s story. Then, for 30 minutes, Pastor Mark delivers a sermon that always draws from the Bible and applies it to our daily lives. I always feel like the sermon was written just for me! The service ends with a song and invitation time. Pastor Mark always goes to the exit door to shake everyone’s hands as they leave, personally saying goodbye and checking if they need anything. The ushers, choir, support staff, and members are all so friendly and there’s no pressure to do or say anything. The dress code is casual, ranging from jeans and a t-shirt to your Sunday best. I absolutely love this place and it’s become our home!
God led me to this church just before Thanksgiving in 1997 and I immediately felt right at home. The members were so friendly, warm, and caring to me and my 8-year-old son. Since then, I have been married there, my son and two step-sons have been baptized there, and my husband and I have served in many capacities. The word of God is preached in relevant ways, the music is worshipful, the activities are meaningful, and the people are my extended family. If God leads you to this church, I hope you will walk through the doors too and allow love to envelop you.
The second week we visited this church my 5 year old son blurted out during the children’s sermon ‘I like this church way better than the other one!’ While everyone in the sanctuary laughed I realized we had finally found our ‘home’ church. My child could see that just because we had been attending a big church with a big children’s group it didn’t mean it was home. He could see quality over quantity before his mother could. This church has heart. This church is filled with love. This church sees you on Sunday and knows who you are. This church genuinely loves its members. This church has become our home! Maybe it’s the home you’re seeking too!
My family’s church home ever since we moved to Virginia, and a place where we immediately felt like a part of the church family from the very first Sunday. These wonderful people have faithfully prayed for us, and we for them, through illness, bereavement, family growing pains, and most recently my recuperation from a bad auto accident; and we’ve rejoiced together through many seasons of joy as well. Through this whole time we have heard God’s word faithfully proclaimed and seen it lived out day by day.
