Words cannot express how special this place is. Happy Time gave my two youngest boys a safe, supportive environment where they were free and accepted to engage as their authentic self while also learning healthy dynamics of socializing with their peers. Director Amy and Teacher Jessica are wonderful souls who are clearly meant to be leading preschoolers. They, and the cooperative organization as a whole, helped me to become a better, more patient, and present mother. I am forever grateful for the happy times at Happy Time, and I wish my oldest two children could have experienced it as well.
We absolutely loved Happy Times! My son was 3 going on 4 and it was his first preschool experience. He went Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 to 12. Teacher Amy was splendid from the start. Maverick would not let me go the first or second day and Amy was able to take him and distract him. Within a few minutes she had him smiling and playing with the other kids. She was kind enough to send pictures as soon as he stopped crying so I would know he was fine. The Co-Op life was fun! I volunteered in the classroom which was an eye opening experience. Its a great way to meet the other parents, know what's expected of the kids (very little besides being respectful of each others space) and learn how to better parent my kid. I would recommend Happy Times to anyone looking for a preschool as long as you're aware a Co-Op means your expected to pitch in some time and effort to keep the school running. Nothing outlandish. Wish we could have had Teacher Amy and Jessica forever!
We are the parents of two children and did not know which preschool to choose from when our older son reached the age of enrollment. We looked into several preschools within the Five Cities area and several in San Luis Obispo (we were willing to travel farther if it meant the right jump start into our son's education). I am a physician and my husband is an engineer and we both are familiar with traditional forms of higher education but I knew nothing about early childhood education. Ultimately, we liked the idea of a play-based model because why not make school fun? We decided on Happy Time and couldn't be happier with our son's experience. Amy, the school's director and teacher, has deep expertise in child development and early childhood education. She is also an expert in kindness, compassion, and insight. We just finished his first school year, and our son will be the first to say how much he loved it. We are thrilled and plan to keep both our children there until they graduate to Kindergarten.
Happy Time is more than just a preschool, it is family. Our daughter had the best year there this year and one can overstate just how incredible the staff and families are that volunteer here. The children benefit so much from the hands on learning while being free to explore whatever they desire be it on the great playground, the art room, quiet room, etc. Cannot recommend enough!
Happy Time is a magical place! Kids can learn to become comfortable and love who they are, surrounded by a supportive and loving community invested in creating safe places for children to learn and explore. Happy Time was more than just a preschool, it was/is a family!
