As parents, we tend to think we have perfect kids. I cannot say anything less about my own child. I have a healthy, super active boy that no school wanted nor gave him the opportunity to come out of his shell. Often, we were told by his teachers that we should get him evaluated by specialists. This was brought up to his pediatrician on various occasions, in which he would always tell us that he was just a normal active boy and that we needed to give him some time to grow and develop. We took him to OT, and the therapist proceeded to tell us there was nothing wrong and that he was smarter than the average boy his age. He started to attend the preK at the United Methodist Church at Hamilton Mill under Mrs Kristin. As expected, my child started to act up in her class. He didn’t last more than 2 months before we had our first meeting where they told us that he was going to be kicked out of school if his behavior continued. As the semester came to a close, a meeting was called to let us know that my son would not be able to come back to school. Mrs Kristin decided that she wanted to act like a licensed psychologist practitioner and proceeded to tell my spouse that our child needed psychiatric support. In no shape or form she has the experience to make such statements as she is not a licensed psychologist to make that determination. Also, we had already started the IEP process with the county, and when we requested the questionnaire that was filled out by Mrs Kristin, she refused to give us such information, which that is a violation of state law. We got the county to evaluate our child for IEP eligibility. Our child scored above average on everything with the exception of social skills. The county determined that he needs to be socialized. The only way for him to be socialized is by being at school, the same schools that have never given him the opportunity to learn these skills. Speaking to his pediatrician, he stated that we are not the only parents dealing with daycares kicking out active boys. These daycare centers do not want to deal with these boys, and they have unqualified personnel thinking that they are psychologists and putting intrusive thoughts into parents’ heads. This has caused so many sleepless nights because of the stress they place upon parents making them believe that there is something wrong with their children. When in reality, these boys are just being boys. A 5 year old boy has a level of testosterone of a teenager, and they expect them to stay still and not move. There is seriously something wrong here.
Hamilton Mill United Methodist church is a great church with compationate ministers and staff. At this church the ministers present the word of God in a loving way, yet keep the Lord in the message. They have an excellent children's ministry at the Roof Top and the teenagers have there own large space for worship. There are 3 services to fit your worship desire. Great Church. Pastor Mark is one of the Best Preachers ever and the Staff is Great, But the Choir Music minister at the 11 am service Mark Locke is the WORST in the world.
This is the friendliest, most loving and caring church I have ever been apart of. They are community oriented. Everyone is welcome.
