What Parents Say
Gretchen's House-DHU Varren receives overwhelmingly positive reviews, with parents praising the caring staff, clean facility, and evidence-based curriculum. Most families report their children thrived emotionally and academically, though one parent noted concerns about bullying not being adequately addressed in the preschool classroom.
Writing this review is bittersweet (a word our daughter learned from this school). Our 4 year old had an amazing year in the Gretchen House Meadow classroom with the GSRP program. We are sad to be leaving, but so very grateful to Betsy, Quinton, Leo, Jerod, Sean, and everyone who guided our daughter over the past 9 months. Our daughter experienced anxiety at the beginning of the year and had little experience in a childcare setting. The teachers were understanding and supportive and after a month the crying at drop off stopped; after a couple months she wanted to stay a full day instead of half day; and then it got to the point where she didn't want to be picked up at the end of the day even. She made so many friends, had great field trips, and overall prepared successfully for kindergarten for next year. We would be so lucky to have these caring professionals teach our son when he is at preschool age in the future. Thank you all!
My son went here for a year while I was in graduate school. They are very open and direct about the curriculum, and I love how clean it is. My son did struggle a little bit at the start, with our first language not being English, but they were supportive all along. Betsy and Q were great him, and he loved his experience. He was enthusiastic going there every morning, quite rare at the time. It was not without incident, but that's expected with kids of that age hanging out together - but the transparency in resolution, the weekly reports, the photos they share to parents, that's what counts!
My son went to this day care center for 5 years. He said he "likes most of the teachers there, but some teachers are kind of mean, not very mean". The teacher for his infant-toddler periods was awesome. We all liked her. However his preschool experience was not good. In those years he was bullied by another kid for a long time but the teacher did not take care of that and did not tell us. My son was too sad to tell us until he was in kindergarten. It seems that the management in GH puts a lot of weight on the teachers' educational history and certificates. But from a parent's perspective, being nice and patient with the kids and really loving them are usually more important.
Evidence-based approach to supporting child development. It's a big center but feels like home. All the teachers and staff are loving, patient, skilled. I've heard it's a good employer, turnover seems very low- we haven't seen a teacher leave in the almost 3 years we've been there. Both my kids love it.
Great place! Warm and caring staff. Clean, modern, and kid friendly facility. Well run.
