What Parents Say
Greene County Child Care Center receives mixed reviews. Most parents praise the caring, experienced staff, educational preparation for kindergarten, and meal provision. However, some parents report concerns about facility conditions, nutrition quality, high child-to-staff ratios, and inconsistent teacher-child relationships.
Our three kids have attended Greene County Childcare for several years, experiencing every class (from toddlers to pre-K and school age). We’ve consistently been impressed by the teachers, and we especially adore Mrs. Megan in the toddler room! The staff truly care about the children and it shows in everything they do. We’ve tried another center before, but nothing compares to the level of care and attention we’ve received here. The director is incredibly involved, and my daughter loves giving her a hug at the end of each day! Having meals provided is a huge bonus, and my kids end up eating things they would never eat at home!
It looks like the best choice by default, given the lack of alternatives in the area. We still pulled our kid out after a short time. Poor quality food, high kid to staff ratio (they max it out, more kids more money I guess). Most of the "Teachers" are young kids themselves. If there's any issue's with your child, they're quick to blame the child instead of the fact that they have too high a child-to-staff ratio and the kids are being ignored. There was one really young girl who never had anything nice to say to us anytime we picked up our child.
As of 2016, our twin boys have been attending the center for 4 years. In that time they have gotten the most loving and attentive care we could imagine. They also could not have been better prepared for kindergarten, we feel. The teachers there are not babysitters. They are constantly preparing your kids for the next level and the expectations that will go along with that. The Center is a non profit business providing an essential service to the surrounding communities and has been in Greene County for 45 years. The staff has an average of 9.5 years working there with a high of 27 years! They know what they are doing! The entire staff from Director on down is the most genuine and caring group of people you could hope for to provide care for your child. The Center is just off route 33 near route 29 and boasts a HUGE playground area as well. Additionally, I understand that there are several improvements being planned for the facility and surrounding grounds. I would highly recommend taking a tour of the Center and enrolling your child(ren) there...
My son attended Greene County Childcare for one year. I enrolled him in preschool to help prepare him for kindergarten, which he will be attending next year, and so he could play with kids his age. I recently removed him because in year that he went to preschool there he never warmed up to his teacher. Everyday before school he would beg me to keep him out, and when I’d pick him up he never had anything good to say about it. He would commonly say stuff like, “I do not like my teacher” or, “I do not have any friends.” I gave it a year hoping that he would develop relationships, but he never became comfortable with the staff. I may be wrong about the teacher, but I actually never met her. When I came in for a tour of the facility the receptionist took me through the classrooms, and she was the only person who talked to me in the year that my son attended. She is lovely. I can not speak for the other staff, as I never met them, but I find it very strange that my son never felt welcome or comfortable at Greene County Childcare.
We had a difficult time finding a good childcare situation for my first son. As soon as he was old enough, we enrolled him here. I was very nervous that this would be another temporary placement, but thankfully, we all loved it. He continued to attend until he left for Kindergarten. I felt like he was completely prepared for the transition. All of the teachers he had were wonderful, some of whom have been at the center for 20+ years. My youngest son has thrived there as well. He is loved and well taken care of, and learns something exciting and new everyday!
