What Parents Say
This appears to be a hospital, not a daycare center. The reviews discuss emergency room, hospital floor, and rehabilitation services rather than childcare. Reviews praise clinical staff and care quality but note administrative and communication issues following a merger with St. Luke's.
I'm leaving this review as someone who works in the healthcare field, so I understand what this work entails, before saying what I am about to say. 2.5 stars is too generous. 1 star is too generous. The lack of treatment and care received at this hospital is abysmal, but the way the nurse treated my mother is even more egregious. My mother was transported by ambulance to the trauma ER unit due to loss of feeling in both feet- what turned out to be multiple arterial clots in both legs. My mother has stage 4 pancreatic cancer. She has received ALL her care at St Luke's. It should go without saying that her medical chart is accessible by all St Luke's facilities via MyChart. It should also go without saying that multiple blood clots for anyone is dangerous, but for someone with end stage cancer, it could be FATAL!!!!!!!!!!! Therefore, her RN, Michele C., should have been MORE THAN AWARE that my mother is a stage 4 pancreatic cancer patient, who is on antibiotics for sepsis, who weighs 96 pounds, who is in end stage, with extremely low kidney function, ascites, no clotting factor or immune system and who had to be transported to the ER on Christmas Eve. Michele C. lacked professionalism, empathy, compassion, tact, competence, and kindness. She was constantly condescending, as if my mother was a petulant child who was forcing her to work Christmas Eve. My mom was an RN for longer than Michele C was alive, but she felt the need to tell my mother "the pain charts are only for children" "the lead lost its' stickiness because she accessed your port." I apologize that some staff are necessary on holidays, I apologize if you were short staffed, if you were grieving or sick or just absolutely miserable. But HOW DARE YOU treat a dying patient with the disrespect and contempt that she was treated with yesterday. Her nurse needed to be told numerous times for THREE HOURS that my mom needed pain medicine. When asked a third time, Michele C said "criticals came in, I paged her twice" PAGE HER AGAIN! THIS IS YOUR JOB! Make sure the patient is comfortable, not in pain, not wincing because you are squeezing her IV site to force out enough blood because you aren't port certified. Make sure the family doesn't need to remind the PCA that the patient is dying and you shouldn't work in healthcare if you can't be compassionate. I wouldn't recommend this ER to someone I hate. Nurse Ratched should be fired and lose her nursing license. I will absolutely be contacting the Hospital Director and Nursing Supervisor. I can't believe how badly she was treated. She was transferred to Upper Bucks, where she is in the ICU, and her entire team has been nothing but supportive and kind. They can't believe how badly she bruised from Michele squeezing the IV site, even with clotting issues. They can't believe how horribly she was treated. It took over 12 hours for her to receive her pain meds. Michele should be ashamed of herself. Never got her warm blankets, made an excuse about them being cold, left her empty transfusion bag just hang, never helped her move for comfort or use the commode. She basically drew blood in a way that a Certified Phlebotomist recognized was wrong and then disappeared the rest of the time my mom was there, in between treating us as a bother. My mother apologized to every single staff member for them having to work Christmas. This is her favorite holiday. This will be her last Christmas. She didn't deserve the cruelty she faced in Grandview's Emergency Torture Unit. Go literally ANYWHERE else! Go to Tower Health--- THEY HAVE PAIN CHARTS WITH SMILEY FACES FOR ADULTS TOO!!! ;) Anthony, possibly a PCA, was an absolute dream doing her EKG. He deserves special recognition, if not for him, she wouldn't have been cared for at all.
I came here after I got into a car accident (I was an employee of GVH at the time too!) and everyone was super nice, got a CT scan and a dose of Ibuprofen quickly ♥️ John was my ER nurse & I had Dr. Orland! They knew exactly who I was and treated me with the utmost respect :) I was supposed to work that day and Dr. O immediately called the unit and told them that I wouldn’t be coming up and why.
The quality of care was outstanding. Physical therapy, occupational therapy speech therapy and all others involved were amazing!!! I would highly recommend this location for rehab!! My only concern is with whomever creates meetings. If you know one of your patients is being discharged during a meeting time frame. Either call the patient family to reschedule or Manager needs to schedule accordingly. That's my only reason for a four Star rating!! Patients should ALWAYS COME FIRST!!!!
Grandview’s 2.5-star rating feels accurate, and possibly generous. My sister was brought to the ER in extreme pain, easily an 8 or 9 out of 10, and was actively vomiting from the intensity of it. They first gave Tramadol which provided no relief, and the pain was severe enough that she was given morphine next in the ER. They ran multiple tests, which did not show anything immediately life-threatening. Based on that, she was discharged and sent home while still in severe pain, still around an 8, and told there was “nothing they could do” other than take Motrin. I understand that the ER’s role is to rule out emergencies, but dismissing a patient in obvious distress and telling them there is nothing that can be done is not acceptable care. Pain management, further investigation, or even a clear plan for next steps should not be optional when someone is suffering this intensely. It felt less like care and more like being pushed out the door once they determined she was not actively dying. If you have a choice, I would seriously reconsider coming here, especially if you are in severe pain and need to be believed and treated with dignity rather than dismissed once initial tests come back “normal.”
Although the hospital upgrades are nice the attitude with the staff still needs a major upgrade. Treat your patients as you would want your family treated when seeking care, that’s the rule of thumb I always go by. The attitude on the staff sucks. I get it long hours, sick patients but you knew what you were getting into when you joined this field. It’s your job so no sympathy cause you’re expected to do your paying job, that’s what we all have to do when we become adults. Please do not give me attitude when explaining laws that you are obviously clueless about.
