Goddard Riverside Community Center

Thank you for never caring about me when I was homeless on the streets for 10 years outside where I grew up on 81st street.

I visited this center today and they made it abundantly clear that they are solely serving the community for tax purposes instead of the kindness of their hearts. Firstly, the food was absolutely disgusting. I entered the black church nearby and the food was much better as expected. Secondly, as soon as I entered there was a Hispanic lady volunteering who I saw trying to secretly record everyone entering with her phone. I mentioned to her that I saw and would like to be removed as it was without my consent and an invasion of privacy. She claimed to have removed the video but that does not mean that she hasn't already transferred the video somewhere else. Thirdly, the seating area had a small occupancy so they deliberately froze people out by keeping the back door open as they had more people waiting outside so we had to rush down our food before it got cold. I saw no purpose of coming if we're not going to be able comfortably eat by being rushed out. I've entered many soup kitchens throughout the city and I must say that this is one that is the biggest scam.

I came here for their annual book fair, which offered books at large discounts. The center itself is relatively small, with a few alcoves for events and a small outdoor space next door. Overall the Goddard Book Fair is a great community event and a center for other events.

I go there to see plays. They were very kind and accommodating the night I couldn't find my covid vaccination proof. I found it with their help.

Consistent music & theatre events. Annual wk end Book Fair. After school, holiday & summer camp. Sr citizen hang out: free breakfast & lunch, day trips. Housing & Medicare advice. 2 seperate locations for children & seniors.
