What Parents Say
Gardena Buddhist Church is a historic Japanese Buddhist temple and community center highly regarded for its cultural events, religious services, and Japanese language school. Reviews praise the welcoming community atmosphere, beautiful facilities, and meaningful cultural experiences including the annual Obon Festival.
Every summer, the Gardena Buddhist Church transforms into a lively street party for the Obon Festival -- and I never miss it. The entire block shuts down for colorful Obon dancing under the glow of paper lanterns, while the air fills with the sizzling aroma of chicken and beef teriyaki. Rows of food stalls tempt you with chewy dango, fresh musubi, fluffy shaved ice, and ice-cold drinks -- the ultimate fuel for dancing the night away. This year, Labubu even showed up to hang out and dance with us, and it made the night extra fun and unforgettable. Between the music, the laughter, and the mouthwatering food, it's a joyful way to celebrate tradition and community, one bite and one dance step at a time.
Absolutely beautiful old old old fashioned Japanese Buddhist Temples. Very very nice Japanese community in old Torrance and Gardena! Definitely worth a trip SUN 9AM - coffee teas and donuts and activities after SUN SERVICE. BIG SMILES EVERYWHERE - even on their Reverend/Monks. Super kind and thoughtful community
Their Japanese language school is very good and affordable. The street in front of it is a bit busy though. The city should add a couple more stop signs to deter speeding though this neighborhood.
My friend past away last year and his service was here. This was my first time attending a Japanese memorial service and was very special to me to be able to participate.
Good location... poor parking but welcoming neighborhood!
