I’m sharing this without naming individuals, but to clearly communicate my experience. Just because an organization is a church and identifies as Christian does not mean it is exempt from ethical, professional, or accountable behavior. Spiritual language should never be used as a shield to dismiss harm, avoid responsibility, or silence concerns. In my experience, concerns were not handled with transparency, integrity, or basic professionalism. When issues were raised, they were minimized or reframed using spiritual justification rather than addressed directly and responsibly. Faith does not replace accountability. Character, ethics, and respect still matter—especially when operating as both a church and a business. Spiritual authority does not grant immunity from treating people fairly. I hope leadership reflects on how concerns are handled and understands that integrity must align with the values they publicly represent.
As an openly queer person in a part of the country that's very conservative, finding an accepting and affirming church is challenging to say the least. However, the congregation at FUMC has been warm and welcoming from the very start. I not only feel safe, but at home. This church has helped me reconnect with my faith in a way I never thought possible.
Love this church I come from a small town in Maryland where the church was just “your” church. It wasn’t a big production type. It was that traditional setting, and I found that within this church although they offer different settings between traditional and modern church, I love the traditional part of it.
We moved to Murfreesboro 2 years ago and immediately searched for a new church. We began attending services at FUMC and have loved the experience ever since. We love our adult Sunday school class and the other disciple classes. It seems FUMC is welcoming to all ages, especially with the traditional service and the modern services. Please come visit and you'll see what has kept us coming back weekly.
They host Adventures in Learning. It is held in September only on Mondays. You sign up for two classes for a fee. It is an opportunity to keep learning for people who are 50 or older. You can purchase a lunch to sit with folks you know or new folks. I bring my lunch and share with the people. It is fun!
