When I first visited this church, I truly enjoyed the experience. I brought my kids and enrolled them in the children’s center. I explained to the staff that my son has autism, and during that first visit, he did so well. I thought he felt safe and happy there. On our second visit, I was expecting the same plan we had discussed that my son would have someone with him in a sensory room. Instead, he was placed in a classroom with other children. Almost immediately, I noticed the two women in the room looking at him like he was “different,” not really offering help, and just standing off to the side. There was also a man who was supposed to be helping, but he, too, kept giving him uncomfortable looks. Others in the room made faces as well. As a mom, it broke my heart to see my child in a place that was supposed to make him feel accepted and safe, but instead left him feeling out of place and judged. I had to take him out and bring him home. I share this not out of anger, but out of hope that there will be more understanding, compassion, and follow through for children with special needs. All children deserve to feel welcomed, valued, and loved especially in a place of worship.
Absolutely loved meeting the people here. I was here for a very sweet, intimate wedding for Dannah and Patrick. It was beautiful. I was made welcomed by everyone and plan on visiting again when I am in the area again. The music minister, Mark, was amazing! Can't wait to visit for a Sunday service.
We are Baptist and were looking for a church to attend. A very friendly church people. They have an early service, then Bible study, then another worship service. The preacher was dynamic and knew his subject good. But the congregation was too large for us The people were friendly and invited us to go out to eat after the service with them.
My family and I became members 3 years ago and still love it! The Preschool Sunday School classes are great and I look forward to all of the programs our little ones can get involved in as they grow in the church- the ministry leaders, staff, and volunteers in all age groups are wonderful and just want to show the love of Christ to whoever walks through the doors. We love our Sunday School class full of real people who have always been nothing but welcoming, loving, and accepting. There are so many areas to serve the Lord. The Pastor doesn't just preach, but he teaches the Bible in a way that can be understood whether you are a seasoned or brand baby new Christian. We have grown so much individually and as a family since our time here at FBCG. LOVE LOVE LOVE this church and look forward to what God has in store for its furture!
If you are looking for a church family you cannot find a better place than First Baptist Garland. Sound theology, wonderful people and a fantastic music program. Blessed to call this our church home for the past six years.
