First Baptist Church A +

A resident of the Sacramento Valley, I enjoy an occasional trip to Tahoe. If I am here on a Sunday, First Baptist Church of Tahoe City is part of my plan: a restorative delight. The songs are relatable, the pastor is super-approachable, and the teaching never fails to meet me deep in my spirit. Part of the service is given to people sharing out words of thanksgiving or requests for prayer. I love this! While it feels awkward, I have sometimes taken the risk to speak up during these times. My words are always graciously received, and there is always follow-through. God is indeed living and loving though the people of FBCTC. I wish the congregants were more warm toward visitors. But I can relate. It's hard to reach out to strangers. Follow-up on 2/9/2025: I attended FBCTC again today and I must revise my review upward. Folks there took the initiative with me before, during, and after the service. I feel warmly welcomed. So my rating is changed from 4 stars to 5.

First Baptist Church of Tahoe City provides an inclusive, teaching atmosphere in an informal, welcoming setting. First Sunday of the month celebrates the Lord's Supper. Children participate in the bread and juice sacrament as Pastor Scott teaches its meaning and proclaims the Jesus as Lord and Saviour. Sermons are clear and understandable as Pastor Scott teaches Biblical lessons combined with historical background information which provides a greater appreciation of the full concept being shared. Music is a blend of contemporary songs and long-cherished hymns. The church is heavily involved in providing community support services including a much-needed childcare program called), "A+"

My husband and I were visiting the church around the time of the ironman. We were warmly greeted and the church itself was very nice and in a beautiful location. The music was very nice and worshipful. I and my husband were personally offended when the Pastor did the Lord's table. He ushered all the children to the front of the church and gave them the Lord's table , these were children of all ages many very small many much older. I could not believe it myself . He never even asked them if they all had accepted Christ as Saviour and understood that this was a sacred testament to the Lord. he presumed they were and they all partook. Then he proceeded to explain to us why he had done this. I personally was appalled. We cannot go back to this church.

My family and I have been attending First Baptist Church of Tahoe City for almost fifteen years now in the category of "summer crowd." However, despite only being around for the summers, we have never felt more welcomed into a church. The small nature of the church allows for unprecedented interaction, in that everyone, including the pastor, knows you by name and welcomes you with open arms. FBCTC is a wonderful place with ever-present Godly people. The staff at this church are simply phenomenal and are true proclaimers of God's goodness who want all to be able to walk with Jesus. FBCTC is an exceptional place to learn about the infinite love God has for us. FBCTC, in my opinion, serves as the epitome of how a church should be; both in the way in which it is administered as well as the loving people who constitute the church.

It says Baptist Church on the sign but it has a more non-denominational feel. Laid back worship and the pastor tells it like it is in love. Jesus is Lord and His love for all is apparent in all they do. Check it out!!
